2012 Toyota Fortuner specification & Features

The upcoming model of the Toyota Fortuner has just been revealed in Thailand. This is the very same facelift that will be coming to India. Toyota has updated its Thailand website with images and specifications of the new SUV as well. The front end is where a lot has changed including the grille, the headlamps and the bumper. The rear end has also undergone a makeover and so has been the interior.
  • The new Fortuner now looks more bolder than the earlier version especially with the huge chrome grille with horizontal slats.
  • The headlights get new projector lamps alongside conventional lights.
  • The fog lamp housing has also been redesigned along with the front bumper which gets a scuff plate as well.
  • Now the old Fortuner looked bulbous from the front which is not the case with the new model
The new Fortuner retains the brute front end look with the lower side of the front fascia now being more flatter than the old SUV. Toyota has also got rid of the side cladding and replaced it with a nice muscular element. In profile the car is instantly recognizable though. At the rear, a redesigned bumper has been added and so has been a new tail lamp cluster. The new clear lense tail lights get an integrated, circular brake lamp as opposed to a rectangular one on the outgoing model.

The interior has also undergone a subtle makeover, the major change being the center console and the steering wheel. The old version had an interior which looked pretty similar to that of the Innova MPV. In the new version the dials too are new giving it a more fresh and unique feel. Now Toyota is offering a 4-speed automatic version of the Fortuner in Thailand which could also come to India. The lack of an auto box was one of the drawbacks the Fortuner faced making the drive a tad more cumbersome in the city, especially given its massive size.

Now, Toyota customers had been complaining about the lack of an automatic option in the Fortuner and this time Toyota might take heed of this and bring in the auto transmission. Despite the lack of an automatic gearbox the Fortuner has been selling only because of the brand and its street presence which is the most sought in India. The powertrain is to remain the same with e 3.0 litre D-4D Diesel with Intercooler Turbocharger which puts out 171 PS and 343 Nm.

The Fortuner’s main rivals in the market today are the Chevrolet Captiva, Mitsubishi Outlander and to an extent the BMW X1, all of which come with automatic transmissions. Secondly, the Captiva is also due for a makeover but expect the new Fortuner to arrive only in 2012 and not during this year.

Expected Launch Date & Price of Hyundai H800 Hatchback in India

Hyundai H800 Hatchback will be priced under 3 Lakh rupees & come in November to take on the likes of the Maruti Alto and the Chevrolet Spark.

Along with launching the Hyundai H800, the South Korean Automaker is also planning a rapid expansion in its dealer count, especially in India’s hinterland to cover areas which were hitherto untapped by Hyundai.

Hyundai India is planning to add no less than 300 rural sales and service points, across the country, in line with the automaker’s plans of increasing the rural sales outlet count to 1,000. Coming back to the Hyundai H800, the car will feature a three cylinder 800c engine, which Hyundai claims will deliver significantly better power as well as fuel economy than it’s rivals.

We have already put in place 700 rural sales outlets and plan to add 300 more in the next couple of months. These are physical locations built with a small investment and are not the standard brick and mortar model. These will help us get closer to the customer with our executives conducting car demos, test drives and also small repair requirements. With this rural model, we will grow our sales share in these markets to 33 per cent by the end of this year.

Notably, Hyundai India has tasted some success with the Hyundai Verna Fluidic which has raced to the top of sales charts in the Indian C-Segment sedan space. Hyundai’s other big sellers include the Hyundai Santro Xing and the Hyundai i10, which continue to sell strongly. These models have ensured that Hyundai India has gotten its nose ahead of Tata Motors, to emerge as the second biggest car maker in India.

After a slow traffic light crawl out of the city I rode via Bunya Road and Clear Mountain Road which were mostly free of cars. The clouds looked rather dark and heavy and I was wondering if I had made a bad call. After Win road I rode back to Samford and up the road

So what is the EPS system really? I was lucky that a few years ago a new model Vauxhall test, the EPS and the only fault I found was it was night when the full disco and light show was driving, that the additional load on the battery for the EPS system is a significant difference in the horses pulling the wagon. Is that why they have made the Grizzly even easier?

TVS Sport Bike Review

TVS brand has come very much appreciated in recent years and wanted to know the supplier make the journey of popularity. Almost 75% of car sales business is the brand the star. But another star is born not long ago, the TVS Star Sports coming two models can be. The base type of sport is available in two colors, red and jet black carbon and alloy wheels. Download the Deluxe version with the fuel gauge and dual toned Chrome sports video in about 3 colors, black, blue and silver.

TVS Sport Colors

If you want to criticize the overall performance of TVS Star, let me know that the sports bike is equipped with a 99.7cc engine and provides a high energy 7.5bhp. Relative to his older brother, Star City, the sport has a certain down-tubed frame, and a four speed gearbox. The suspension has the same appearance as the City Star, but the latter is the use of five measures of adjustable stroke, just a little 'longer than the beginning Get City. Sport is equipped with alloy wheels and what makes it different from the city a new face-lifted muffler (silencer with a mat a cluster heat shield chrome dual pod). I have the assessment of other indicators of Star Sports and also come in as normal, even if headlamp dome five pilot lamps. (TVS reviews this feature is one of those in the region to begin with).

I-80, Nevada - Crossing The Desert

I seemed to get off to a slow start this morning and by the time the bike was “neatly packaged” I had already worked up a sweat in the Salt Flats heat so decided to leave West Wendover with minimal layers. Of course I wasn’t far out when I found it necessary to stop and put the layers back on. It seems the weather fairies have been on my side. While most of the rest of the US is in the midst of a heat wave the route I’m following has remained comfortably cool and dry and appears may stay that way for the next few days at least.

I wanted to see new things on this tour; I just don’t think I was prepared for how much of the something new I was going to see. The desert seems to go on forever, the road following nature’s route, twisting and turning through natural canyons and mountain passes. It’s bleak, dry and barren. The only trees are made by man – telephone poles and hydro lines stretching across the desert. Again today, the railroad paralleled my path most of the way. The brown countryside became monotonous with only a few shanty towns and the odd ranch or mining site. I watched many a dust whirlwind dance beside the highway. Who are the people who live in this rugged wilderness? I now understand why the cowboy I chatted with in Nebraska said nothing, just raised an eyebrow when I said I was going to follow 80 west.

An Oasis frozen in time
I-80 from West Wendover to Reno seemed a long ride on a modern steel horse I cannot imagine the journey in the 1840s by horse and wagon … or even in the 1920s by motorcar. I stopped at the Oasis exit to photograph a memory of those days gone by - A truck stop that was abandoned on a stretch of pavement now overgrown. It was frozen in time, the people having just walked away. Its sign was still boasting ice cream and groceries, the last vehicle to visit was still parked in front.

In contrast to the desert, Reno is a vibrant, color-filled and bubbling place; my oasis here, Whole Foods Market – a travelers dream. It has everything imaginable including delicious foods of all kinds to go, just 7.99 a pound. I’m close to a car wash - tomorrow the dirty girl gets a bath but tonight she and I are California dreaming!

Simoncelli leads German practice

From motogp.com

Following a cold and windy morning free practice that yielded five big crashes in the first half of the session, the MotoGP field entered the second practice on Friday on a substantially warmer track and slightly calmer winds.

Marco Simoncelli rode his San Carlo Honda Gresini bike to the top of the timings with a lap of 1:22.225, over half a second faster than his FP1 time, and 0.095s in front of defending World Champion Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing), who mounted his own attempt to lead the field with fast lap of 1:22.320, an improvement of 0.726s over his FP1 time, though it was quickly outpaced by the Italian.

"Everything is going well, although I am not totally happy because we have some rear traction problems on the left side that we are struggling to resolve," Simoncelli said. "It seems everybody is in the same boat, but we will be working mainly on this area tomorrow to try and improve the situation. Our other main goal is to get a clear idea about tire choice for Sunday's race. Thirty laps is a lot here, especially because there is barely a single straight for you to relax on."

"I am pretty satisfied because I have improved my lap times today," Lorenzo said. "I am almost faster than last year and I look forward to making another step tomorrow. We have made some changes and I feel much better on my M1; faster and more competitive. The slow corners are tough, but in the faster ones I take some tenths, especially T3 and T4. I hope tomorrow the temperature can be even hotter and we can fight for the first row."

Dani Pedrosa demonstrated his climb back to full fitness is near completion with a third fastest time of 1:22.432, over a second faster than his time set in the morning session. The 25-year-old was just in front of his two teammates, 0.110s ahead of Casey Stoner, and 0.222s quicker than Andrea Dovizioso.

"We had a quite positive start despite the accident I had in the morning practice session," Pedrosa said. "I crashed in the fast downhill right hand corner, like everyone else because the tire was very cold and I had no warning. Fortunately I didn't hurt myself, which is good, and in the afternoon I was able to improve my lap times because in the morning, after the crash, we didn't have much time on track.

"In the second practice, with sunshine and a little more temperature on the track, we had better grip especially in these critical turns on the right, although the track conditions still are not great. Anyway, times are pretty good compared to last year, though the track conditions are worse. We'll keep working on the bike tomorrow and I'll probably try the new swing arm I tested in Mugello on Monday."

The first Ducati Team rider of the session was Nicky Hayden, who posted a time of 1:22.882 to put him in sixth place, in front of fellow countryman Ben Spies (Yamaha Factory Racing), whose time of 1:22.894 was the last under the 1:23 mark.

Pramac Racing's Randy de Puniet posted the eighth fastest time of the day with a 1:23.037, followed by Álvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) and Karel Abraham (Cardion AB Motoracing) completing the top 10.

Ducati team's Valentino Rossi entered the garages with electrical problems toward the end of the session, though the Italian was able rejoin the session to post the 12th fastest time, just behind the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1 of Colin Edwards.

Héctor Barberá (Mapfre Aspar) crashed out at the end of the session but fortunately was unhurt. The 24-year-old Spaniard was 13th in the session and 11th fastest for the day. He was followed by Cal Crutchlow (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), who suffered a crash in turn 11 but was able to reenter the track to post a time of 1:23.760.

Sylvain Guintoli stepped in for Loris Capirossi on the Pramac Racing team for the remainder of the weekend as Capirossi is still suffering from chest and shoulder pain following his crash in Assen.

The first day of the Sachsenring weekend saw Interwetten Paddock Moto2 rider Thomas Lüthi posting the fastest Moto2 time of the day, a 1:25.458, nearly a second quicker than his FP1 time. He was pursued by Aleix Espargaró (Pons HP 40), a frontrunner for much of the second practice session who clocked a fast lap of 1:25.460, an improvement of 0.811s over his earlier time. Yuki Takahashi (Gresini Racing) made the top three of the day with a lap of 1:25.468, which was 0.651s faster than he went earlier in the day.

Fourth fastest was Englishman Scott Redding of the Marc VDS Racing team, setting a time of 1:25.529, followed by current Championship leader Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing), who set a lap of 1:25.577 to rank fifth fastest of the day on his home turf.

The second practice session for the single cylinder class was held under sunny skies and warmer temperatures than the day's earlier session, with a breeze of 22km/h blowing steadily across the track. Nico Terol set a time of 1:28.483, 0.375s faster than his earlier time, to jump ahead of his team mate Héctor Faubel by seven thousandths of a second. Faubel, who had dominated the timings for most of the 40-minute practice, posted a time of 1:28.490, which was 0.635s quicker than his FP1 fastest lap.

BEST TOURING BIKE - Honda Gold Wing

If it weren’t so impressive, the Gold Wing’s touring dynasty would be almost ridiculous. The bike has won a Ten Best award an amazing 16 times, its first coming way back in 1977 before it even had a fairing! Not subject to a major revision since 2001, the GL1800 and its super-smooth, torquey flat-Six engine have flown the flag well. But in the ensuing years, the features have piled on, making the Wing a safer and more complete Mile Eating Machine than ever before. Recent additions include a GPS-based satellite navigation system and the world’s first airbag on a motorcycle.

CONTENDERS: Last year, Victory’s Vision tourer joined the fray and definitely took a serious shot at the Gold Wing, almost unseating The King on style alone. BMW’s

Kawasaki Concours 14

Time travel has yet to be invented. But when you’re riding Kawasaki’s lightspeed Concours 14, it feels like we’ve gotten a good start! This 1352cc inline-Four makes an incredible amount of smooth power, peaking with 137-hp at 9700 rpm and 92 ft.-lb. of torque at 7300. It launches the 14 with the kind of authority only such a deep well of urge possibly could. But thanks to counter balancers and a variable valve-timing system, it does this with the utmost in civility, allowing you to fly through space in a way that seems to defy explanation. Nice thing is, once you get there, the big, detachable saddlebags mean you’ve got your favorite stuff with you (clean underwear, anyone?), and the comfy riding position means you feel great, too.

CONTENDERS: Mainly the Germans this year, with the K1300GT, a hotted up, larger-displacement version of the K1200GT that won the award in 2007 - proof that we’re getting even closer to actual time travel.

BEST CRUISER - Yamaha Star Raider

Yamaha calls its cruiser line Star, and in 2008 there were none that burned more brightly than the all-new Raider. In an incredibly competitive field of excellent laid-back, highly styled machines from classic baggers to production choppers, the Raider really stood out. As we said in Cycle World’s Ten Best Bikes issue last August, “It’s pretty easy to build a fat-tired, raked-out custom; the hard part is building one that has the requisite fat-tired raked-out look but that also feels and behaves like a ‘normal’ motorcycle.” But that is exactly what Star did, endowing this long, low machine with a 40-degree fork angle, 210mm rear tire and a 71-inch wheelbase, while also getting it to handle amazingly well. The super-refined-yet-soulful 1854cc V-Twin engine just added to the show.
CONTENDERS: Is there “choppetition”? Yes, and one is from Honda, an early release 2010 called the Fury, sporting a profile similar to the Raider’s but powered by a 1300cc V-Twin. There also is a host of new 1700cc Vulcans from Kawasaki, and don’t forget Yamaha’s own V Star 950 and 950 Tourer, just added to the ‘09 line. Triumph has a 2010 model-year cruiser on the way, as well, in the form of the Thunderbird 1600 parallel-Twin.

One Week

Uinta Mountain Range
Day 7 – Can you believe it’s been one week and 4,189.3 km since I left home. I headed west from Lyman Wyoming this morning with lots of time for the short ride planned – time enough to stop and take a few photos today. The mountain climb on highway 80 was relatively gradual and I hadn’t realized how high up Lyman was until the temperature dropped. At 6000 feet above sea level it gets cold at night, I was glad I’d packed the under armors. I rode out of Lyman (fully dressed and with the heat on) surrounded by mountains – jagged rocky peaks to the left, older rounded peaks to the right, mountains in front, mountains behind … mountains as far as my eye could see. I finally felt like I was travelling through the mountains. The Yamaha Star is climbing to the top, effortlessly, so far.

Echo Canyon Train
I stopped at Evanston for gas, air and a drive around town then it was back to highway 80. The countryside was desolate yet peacefully serene. There was nothing but the hills, the highway and the train track that paralleled my ride. It almost seemed untouched by the hands of man except for the ugliness every now and then of mounds of wrecked cars. I stopped at Echo Canyon, the red canyon, and climbed to the top of a hill to wait for the train (have you noticed a recurring theme here?) coming down the track. I had been planning on ways to avoid travelling across the salt flats until I spoke with the tourist information people who assured me that it really wouldn’t be all that hot today. So, I decided, I’m here now, I might as well see it all and headed directly to Salt Lake City and beyond.

Great Salt Lake
The ride into the basin and Salt Lake City seemed like a sheer drop compared to the way the road had been winding up. Garmin Dan and I took a detour to avoid most of the city making sure to fill up with gas (as wisely advised by the tourist information man) and to remove any extra layers of clothing before heading toward the desert. Great Salt Lake smelled of the sea. I stopped for a picture of a train (surprise) rolling east on the track in front of the lake and then headed onto the flats. There was a blue heat haze across the evaporated lake but the breeze felt surprisingly cool. The desert turned to white as I entered the salt flats area. The salt flats were littered with tire tracks from would be racers right off the 80 and one young man, he and his Toyota still sitting there in the salt, mired to the hubcaps. There was a viewing area where I took a picture of the Star against the Salt Flats backdrop and ventured a step onto the salt. It reminded me of a frozen white lake.

I pulled into the campsite at the edge of the Flats behind a familiar RV hauling a 69 VW bug. This was the third night I’d seen the same vehicle and couldn’t help starting up a conversation with Gabe and Sandy from California on the home stretch of their cross country adventure.

Tonight, I’m camping in the desert, on one side the Salt Flats on the other the flashing casino lights all surrounded by rocky peaks ... oh, wait a minute. I think I hear a train!

Maruti & Hyundai also give good discount on their cars

In fact, car sales growth slowed to just 1.6 percent in June. This has prompted automakers to throw away some freebies and discounts to encourage sales. Following Honda’s announcement on Monday which dropped the price of the Honda Jazz by a staggering Rs 1.75 lakh now, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have joined the fray.
  • Maruti, India’s #1 auto maker has offers rebates of more than Rs 50,000 on Alto, WagonR and Estilo
  • Hyundai Motor India is offering up to Rs 45,000 discount on its popular i10 and Santro compact cars

Honda is also offering a discount of Rs 50,000 on the Honda City which at some time was the segment leader. This comes after the Japanese automaker revised the prices of the Honda City by Rs 66,000 last month. Meanwhile, the rising interest rates have also been one of the factors responsible for the slowdown in the auto sector.

Car makers like Volkswagen are now encouraging customers to buy the Vento petrol sedan by offering loans 6.99 percent interest rate. German premium car makers like Audi and Mercedes Benz are offering zero interest loans on the Audi A4 sedan and the Mercedes Benz C-Class.

So I started shopping, I stumbled upon Derbi GPR50R I needed it the whole race sticker set and looked the biz. Power supplies are rated at 9HP, and I heard rumors that the engine is up 20 hp can communicate with adding 80cc Big Bore kit, carb and performance exhaust, but I did not, as it was illegal, I think that was 50 cm and a bike at least 70 mph de limited. fast enough to 50 cc.

Ergonomically, the round was great. They would probably be very hard to convince people that it is only 50 cm and was licensed as a scooter (until they see you leave). Ing and their location is excellent, the headlights throw a clear, well-focused beam, suspension, is simply excellent, excellent brakes, and everything looks very well sorted. The control is excellent, you can really lean in corners with confidence.

I would recommend an eye on the oil tank is exactly the same thing happened to my friends on the bike, my bike next three years nothing more than general maintenance. Bajaj Boxer 150 or the Bharat Bike launch in August 2011

The motorcycle, which Bajaj Auto hopes will spawn an all new segment, of that of rugged load carrying motorcycles, the Bajaj Boxer 150 or the “Bharat Bike” has already been soft launched in some areas of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. This motorcycle will see a pan India launch in August, this year.

Touted to replace the likes of the long serving but now defunct Escorts Rajdoot and the Ideal Jawa Yezdi, as a workhorse motorcycle for India’s hinterland, the Bajaj Boxer 150 will come with a tough four stroke engine that is expected to be a torquey performer in order to lug big loads in rural India.

With a 150cc engine, Bajaj Auto might not really be able to offer the same level of efficiency as that of a 100cc four stroke motorcycle, and this could be a big factor that makes or breaks the Boxer 150. On how exactly the Indian hinterland’ motorcycle market takes to this particular trait of a larger engined motorcycle is something that would be very interesting to see.

With the existing Splendors of the world doing a reasonable job of hauling three adults around and on other occasions helping to carry loads too, the Boxer 150 is set to challenge the status quo. This apart, the Bajaj Boxer 150 is also expected to equipped with a load carrying platform that could be used to lug large loads as pillion.

Bajaj Auto will be hoping that the INR 40,000 price mark for the Boxer 150, in true Bajaj tradition of offering more for less, will be a big factor that entices motorcycle buyers of the Indian hinterland. All said and done, it is quite commendable that Bajaj Auto is trying to create an all new segment in the Indian motorcycle market than being a mere follower of trends.

Triumph Street Triple 675

The British love to use the word “brilliant,” and they usually say it with some exclamation. Well, the whole world’s moto-media used the word, and did so with a big exclamation, when the Street Triple came out. Based on the awesome Daytona 675-but fitted with a tubular-style handlebar and stripped of its fairing - the Street Triple was a revelation on the road. It is light in weight, handles great and is very comfortable. The engine is slightly re-tuned to deliver more bottom-end power, but it still revs to a vigorous 13,000 rpm. Factor in the $7999 MSRR and there was no better choice in 2008.

CONTENDERS:
There now is a Street Triple R that brings fully adjustable suspension and radial-mount front brake I calipers lifted from last year’s Daytona. Then there is Kawasaki’s ER6n naked, the Suzuki Gladius, the previously mentioned Ducati Monster 1100 and Street-fighter, Harley-Davidson’s XR1200, a trio of Aprilias and once again, the Star VMax. This may be the best category to shop in for 2009!

Royal Enfield UCE500 Classic Chrome may launch in India in upcoming time

Royal Enfield Classic Chrome was first unveiled at the 2010 Indian Auto Expo, following which it was launched in the American and European markets. Many prospective buyers have been eagerly asking about this motorcycle’s Indian launch, and finally Royal Enfield seems all set to give Indian Royal Enfield the option of buying this classy motorcycle.

Mechanically, the Royal Enfield Classic Chrome 500 is not dissimilar to the Classic 500 EFI
  • 500cc engine
  • Air cooled
  • Pushrod based unit construction engine that produces a peak power of 27.2 Bhp at 5,250 rpm
  • Peak torque of 41.3 Nm at 4,000 rpm
  • Fuel injected engine will be mated to a five speed transmission

Although a non fuel injected 500cc motorcycle from Royal Enfield would be a good idea considering the fact that the Indian Bullets don’t come with the critical O2 sensor as a cost cutting measure.

While the export versions of the Classic Chrome 500 comes
18 inch wheels, the Indian model could come with a 19 inch wheel up front for better high speed stability.
Moving on to the cosmetic changes, the Classic Chrome gets dollops of chrome all around. The front mudguard, the fuel tank, the air box and the rear mudguard get chrome plated to give the Classic Chrome terrific street presence.

When the Royal Enfield Classic UCE350/500 was launched in India, many Bulleteers complained of how puny the motorcycle looked when compared to the likes of the 19 inch wheeled models like the Electra and the Machismo. So, the addition of chrome will perhaps put back the imposing presence that Bullets are always known for

Windy Wyoming

Day six – today has cost me $35., campsite (no hook ups) plus breakfast, lunch and dinner all (but gas) inclusive. My body, still on Eastern Standard Time was awake early. I was ready to ride by 6:30, so after a quick stop for gas and breakie I decided it would be a great day to veer off the highway at least a couple of times for photos and headed into Cheyenne. The folks (who were up) were very friendly. My Ontario License plate is now an anomaly and folks just stop to chat. One of the locals I met on the street suggested, with a Midwestern drawl, that Cheyenne had more to see than all of California. I took a few quick photos (nothing was open yet) and headed west. Next stop, does this sound like every western movie you ever saw? Laramie.

I rounded a bend on the I-80 just outside of Laramie and there before me were the majestic, snow covered mountain peaks. I’ve crossed the Continental Divide now and have decided that western Wyoming should be renamed Windy Wyoming. Some stretches of the highway were, what I imagine, driving back and forth through the turbo dryer at the drive through automatic car wash would feel like, not that I have actually done that. But it was windy enough to make a rider slow down. I am wondering if perhaps a bit more research as to the “character” of this particular route might have been in order after having a 6 foot plus, 220 lb Harley rider complain about the wind.

Parts of I-80/30 are under construction which doesn’t hinder traffic much unless it’s a stretch where four lanes have been reduced to two lanes and a semi breaks down on your side. I sat for 45 minutes admiring the scenery, waiting for the semi to be removed. The line of traffic was so long that it took a full 10 minutes from the time I saw the traffic at the head begin to move until I was actually underway again.

Tonight’s campsite is windy, but lovely. It’s not far off the highway but I can’t hear the traffic. It’s small and I’ve met some of my neighbors – a group of paleontologists from the University of Washington here on a two week dig, looking for prehistoric mammalian fossils in the rock formations nearby. The landscape is rugged and barren. The rocks that appear to have been shoved from the bowels of the earth thousands of years ago house a treasure of fossilized remains of creatures from gone by eras. The tops of the hills are dotted with hoodoos reminiscent of Drumheller Alberta. Tomorrow I should be in Utah.

Just Feed Me To The Bears - I'm Old Anyway

*** continued from previous post ***

All eyes of the family turned to me. I had their undivided attention. Had I known all it would take to win them to our side was the mention of wildlife it would have made the last 20 minutes much, much simpler. As a typical child of the 1970's, I'd watched many hours of "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom". If I had known this simple fact I would have lied through my teeth and reveled them with stories of my wilderness adventures based on my memory of the TV shows. True, my recollection was a bit spotty, a tad fuzzy, but I'm sure I could manage. I watched that damn show every Sunday night for years. Why? Because it was something that you had to endure to get to the "Wonderful World of Disney". Which was as close as we got in those days to kiddie-crack. Wild Kingdom was like penance.

Anyway, if pressed I would have regaled them with the tale of hunting the Great White Whale on the open seas, and how I had lost my leg to the demon-beast of the depths.

On second thought, that may have not been "Wild Kingdom". I think that was one of the Brady Bunch vacations. I'm old. I get confused sometimes. Deal with it.

Mark was the first to speak, "Saw a bear in the valley as you came up, did ya?"

His tone was a bit softer, a tad less confrontational. It was obvious that he had seen well over 2 million grizzlies in his life, and had hand-fed most of them so our encounter was - for lack of a better word - 'cute'.

"Yep," I said. "It was quite a trip. Especially the bears. Well and the moose. But the bear was a heck of a lot closer than the moose."

Carl, ever the life of the party, said "You know a bike hit a grizzly last week down on Highway 40. That was a mess."

Oh joy. We were now at the 'maiming and death on a motorcycle' part of the conversation. I decided to play it cool. Besides, there was that 'Highway 40' thingee again.

"Highway 40 ,” I said, “that's quite a ride up from Carnack. I don't know if I'd call it a 'highway' though."

Carl looked at me quizzically. "Carnack? No, that's on the other side."

What the hell?

"The other side?"

"Well yeah," he said, "it comes up from the south. Still gravel though."

I'd have to take a look at that. I wondered if this mythical road was an option for our departure. If it was less than the sheer cliff back to Carnack I wouldn't hesitate - grizzlies or not. I was dreading that steep, slippery, twisty trip back to civilization already. I'd half decided that it might be better just to feed ourselves to the bears and be done with it.
Or at least feed myself to a bear if it turned out there really was a different, and probably easier way up here. Just to escape the wrath of your mother.

Mahindra W201 World SUV may launch in India in September and October 2011

Mahindra W201 World SUV will be launched sometime between September and October this year, and already the branding program for what essentially is Mahindra’s most ambitious product yet, is underway.

The Mahindra W201 SUV will feature the same 2.2 Liter CRDe engine that the Mahindra Scorpio SUV comes with, but with a higher power and torque rating of around 136 Bhp and 320 Nm. Initially, we’re betting on a two wheel drive version of the SUV being available, which will soon e joined by an all wheel drive version. Contrary to some reports floating around, this SUV will not replace the Scorpio, but will actually sit a segment higher than the Scorpio.

Those who have been in the SUV tell us that this is Mahindra’s most refined product yet, with the fit and finish levels a marked improvement over the current Mahindra flagship, the Scorpio. Transmission options could include both a manual tranny and an automatic gearbox. By the looks of it, the Mahindra W201 World SUV looks quite butch, in true Mahindra tradition although we’d have loved to have seen the toothy grille replaced by something a little more pleasant looking.
