KTM sweeps BEMC’s 56th Corduroy Enduro as Patrick Beaule from Quebec won his 3rd Corduroy log this past weekend, besting fellow KTM riders Matt Spigelmyer from Pennsylvania and title sponsor Alan Lachapelle of LRP Racing in Quebec finishing 2nd and 3rd respectfully.  Heavy rains made the already challenging 340km course insurmountable for some, and tested the rider’s ability and stamina to the max. Those riders who did manage to make it through both days were awarded a well deserved finisher’s medal from Belleville Sport. 

The Corduroy, known for it’s brutality to body and machine, once again lived up to its reputation.   New this year, the KTM Enduro-cross test which was held Saturday at the finish area was a big hit with riders and spectators.  Following Saturday’s course riders competed three at time on the gruelling closed course track built by Cliffshore Adventure which included log ladders and tractor tire climbs.  Other rider favourites and spectator points included the Husqvarna MX tests, Green’s Mountain, the dreaded Tunnel of Love, Honey-moon trail and the infamous Burnt River crossing.    Of the numerous new trails this year the BEMC 440 trail will stand out in the memories of the expert and pro riders as it rained and hailed on them as they climbed their way up this 440 foot rock face on Saturday afternoon.  Off bike events on Saturday included the Machine Racing tire changing competition that followed a hearty dinner hosted by Orange Motorsports and Motovan Corp.

On Sunday, after a breakfast hosted by Motorsports of Trenton the competitors began Day 2 of the Cord.  Of the four women entered, Any Lavoie was the only one to finish both days, while the Irwin family tradition continued with Tom Irwin riding his 30th Corduroy Enduro and his son Ben riding his 1st.  Bert Irwin, Tom’s father, holds the record for the most Corduroy’s ridden totalling 32.  The Bert Irwin memorial trophy is awarded to the youngest finisher every year, and this year it went to Connor Brogan who rode his 1st Corduroy at age 16.
