OFTR teams up with Kawartha Lakes

From the Ontario Federation of Trail Riders

GOODERHAM, ON -- The Ontario Federation of Trail Riders (OFTR) announced on Thursday that has entered into a partnership with the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) to invest $233,352 in improvements to the trail systems and signage in the Somerville Forest west of Kinmount.

The CKL has release $116,676 from its forest reserves for trail improvements and the OFTR was able to match those funds using a grant from the National Trails Coalition (NTC) Stimulus Program.

The OFTR is an active member of the Somerville Forest User Group (SFUG) and will be entering into a use agreement this winter for access to the forest.

The project will involve trail improvements, signage and mapping for all types of users. The Kawartha Lakes Snowmobile Club (www.klsc.ca) and the CKL roads staff will be performing major trail restoration to correct damage caused by 4WD trucks and ATVs. This is a wet and rocky area and the trails need serious reengineering. The OFTR is managing three of the 11 sub-projects.

The OFTR (www.oftr.ca) was formed in 1992 and adopted the shared use mandate and a vision to be ‘the Voice of Off-Road Motorcyclists in Ontario.
