Crevier rides a Honda at AMP

By John Hopkins

SHUBENACADIE, NS – The young guns competing in the Honda CBR125R Challenge at Atlantic Motorsport Park this weekend have found themselves pitting their skills against a six-time Canadian Superbike Champion.

Maple Ridge, BC’s Steve Crevier was a late entry to the development class for the weekend and has qualified eighth for the pair of races at AMP. Crevier turned a lap at 1:32.319 around the 11-turn 2.56km track in qualifying Friday afternoon. That compared to a 1:30.189 set by fastest qualifier Austin Shaw-O’Leary.

“I’m having fun,” said the 44-year-old Crevier, who lowered his best time to a 1:31.375 in Saturday morning’s practice session. “I made a lot of mistakes in practice this morning. I can see getting into the 30s but I think these kids have me covered. I just need to carry a lot of corner speed and be as smooth as possible.”

Crevier had his first taste of mini roadracing last weekend when he visited the Alberta Mini Roadracing Association event held at the Greg Moore Go Kart facility in Chilliwack, BC.

“They’ve got a decent track there and it’s close to home,” he explained. “I can see youth racing growing out there.”

The Chilliwack event also gave Crevier’s 11-year-old son, Wyatt, his first experience of pavement racing.

“I’ve always raced at a highly competitive level and never really enjoyed the fun aspect of it,” Crevier added. “It was neat to see the family aspect of the AMRA series and be a part of that.”
