Offically launch date of Chevrolet Beat Diesel

The grapevine has it that the Chevrolet Beat Diesel will officially be launched on the 15th of July, after months of testing on Indian roads.

Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Beat Diesel is expected to be a price warrior, and is set to become one of the least priced diesel hatchbacks in India, thus giving General Motors India a solid chance to boost Beat volumes. The Chevrolet Beat Diesel could be available in three variants. The base variant, a mid level variant and a top end variant.

EXPECTED PRICE
  • The base variant is expected to be a bare bones affair and could arrive with a price tag under 4 Lakh Rupees, Ex-showroom Delhi.
  • The mid level variant, which will get a few more creature comforts but miss out on the safety kit like airbags and ABS is expected to be priced around 4.4-4.5 Lakhs ex-showroom
  • the top end version with all the bells and whistles like automatic climate control, airbags and ABS could sell just under 5 Lakhs, ex-showroom.
These prices obviously make the Beat Diesel look quite tantalizing for the small family, for whom spacious interiors might not be a prime requirement. By undercutting it’s rival(Read the Figo) by a good 50-60 thousand rupees, the Beat Diesel with a 936cc CRDI engine producing 57 Bhp and 160 Nm looks like a solid bet as an entry level diesel hatchback. Now, time to sit back and wait for the official launch even as we’ve revealed most of specifications and price points that the Beat Diesel will come with.

When new version of Chevrolet Captiva SUV launch in India

Definite information about the facelifted Captiva SUV being launched in October this year and hence, here’s a quick update on what all the new Captiva would get along with the exterior and the interior refresh. The SUV, which now adopts the GM family styling with a prominent grille up front, looks much more aggressive than the current version.

This aspect of the SUV could endear it to many prospective buyers. Even on the inside, the twin pod cockpit layout that GM introduced with the Cruze and the Beat will be carried forward to the Chevrolet Captica SUV, thus making for an interior refresh. Engine options though could remain the same although General Motors does sell the Captiva globally with a new 2.2 Liter CRDI diesel engine producing 163 Bhp of shove and 350 Nm of twist.

So this engine might come along to India along with a new range of six speed manual and automatic transmissions. October is when General Motors India has lined up the new Chevrolet Captiva SUV for an Indian launch. With the Captiva SUV arriving in October, expect Ford India to ready up the new Endevour SUV in 2012, also with an automatic transmission option

When Chevrolet Beat Diesel will launch in India

All along, June 2011 was the anticipated launch month for the 2011 Chevrolet Beat Diesel, as confirmed by General Motors India officials themselves. However, there seems to be a slight delay in the Beat Diesel’s launch, which now will in July 2011. While we don’t know why exactly GM India has postponed the launch to July 2011, our sources tell us that the Beat Diesel is ready for launch with the conclusion of all the required testing and certification of the car.

When it will get launched, the Chevrolet Beat Diesel is expected to be cheapest entry level Diesel car in the Indian market, even under cutting the Tata Indica eV2. The launch of the Chevrolet Beat Diesel could also herald a new era of value priced diesel cars in India with fuel economy as the main selling point. This, as the petrol prices hovering at the INR 70/Liter mark has forced many car  manufacturers to do a major rethink on their car development plans as diesel engined cars are set to become the volume pullers in the near future.

So, a sub INR 4 Lakh price tag for the Chevrolet Diesel Beat could be a very strong possibility. The Beat Diesel will come with a 3 pot CRDI Engine producing 57 Bhp and 140 Nm of torque, tuned mainly for driveability and fuel economy. What remains to be seen is how smooth and vibe free the three pot diesel engine can be as most three cylinder engines suffer from higher vibration levels necessitating the use of a balancer shaft to keep the intrusive vibes away.

All said, the arrival of the Beat Diesel could do to General Motors India, what the Figo has been doing for Ford India. In short, create a big spurt in volumes which, at a time when car sales are experiencing a slowdown, could do a world of good. So, the Beat Diesel will essentially unleash the full potential of the zany looking small car whose sales, despite the availability of an LPG variant have been tepid to say the least.
