Winter riding

I hit the road early today and despite being one of the coldest weekends this year I was not cold at all having learned a few tricks to ensure I keep warm. Starting at the base layer I wear a thermal shirt rather than a regular t-shirt. I use merino ones which are pricey here but not too bad if you buy from New Zealand and much better than the regular polyester ones. Besides holding the body

Go your own way

Yesterday was a beautiful winters day with no clouds and a mild temperature. And so I rose early today hopeful of the same however the day was gray and gloomy. Never mind I am awake now so off for a small ride. Riding south I turned off and went to Mt Tamborine via Logan village. Very cold riding next to the Logan river just after 7.00am, I should have gone in my full winter gear however

Lockyer Valley ride

Despite the forecast of showers I rose early and they were all sitting off shore so I decided to try a ride to the west. One thing about Brisbane is you have good riding to the South, North and West. Too bad about that Pacific ocean to the East or we might have even more I elected to take my winter outfit which is also waterproof and of course this ensured that I had dry riding all day. Good

Gold Coast ride

Near perfect riding weather yesterday and today, last day off so I went for a small ride.I didn’t feel like doing many miles, just wanted to get out so headed off to a couple of my old favorites. Starting from Mudgeeraba I rode up Springbrook mountain and took in some views. I have not been there for some time as I always ride south over Currumbin which is mostly car free early on and was not

Easter 2011 Ride

Easter 2011 was already a 5 day weekend due to ANZAC day falling at the same time. Now the following weekend is also a public holiday so it was no surprise that many people, myself included opted to take the days in between off to form a week + off work. I had been toying with going to ride the Oxley highway again this year and then in the days leading up to the break saw the weather down

Small Tweed Valley ride

Beautiful day today. Sunny and mild weather with clear air, no wonder there we 100’s of motorcycles out and about. I picked the CB up from Pipemasters exhaust shop Saturday and was unsure if the revised baffles were still too loud or not. Well I can confirm after todays ride yes they are still much too loud so back it will go. Todays ride was not too long in distance and besides the mufflers

Grevillia Loop

After a short break previously talked about I am back on the road. While off the bike I took it to a exhaust and polish shop and got some work done. I ordered a custom made exhaust system in the CBX style. 4 into 4 chrome plated header pipes and four stainless steel mufflers. At the same time since a metal polish shop is attached I decided to get some items polished. Here is the result. The

Australia Day ride

Edited 27.01.2011 Since the weekend looks like rain I went for a small ride today, Australia day public holiday. Clear Mountain road. I rode out via Bunya Road and Clear Mountain Road, both of which are terrific. Then I skirted North Pine dam and wanted to go north but not via Mt Mee. Without any map or GPS I simply ended up back on the road to Dayboro so figured ok I will try another day.

Surf and Turf

Took the CB for it’s second proper outing last weekend. I wanted to ride North or West however the roads were cut in some places due to floods and the south again looked the more dry option. Riding over Curumbin range in the morning there were so many motorbikes there that I wondered if this route was in danger of becoming over popular. Turned out there were simply many riders everywhere that

Last Buell ride

Yes I am going to sell my Buell. Nothing wrong with it or that I am unhappy with, just time to try something different, a new project. I have always liked the 70’s superbikes but had no desire to own or ride one. It is the looks I like not the 70’s handling, braking or power. I would never own another carby fueled bike either. The CB1100F that I have been posting on Facebook and that I rode in

Japan Ride 2010

Despite a major incident on tour I again enjoyed riding in Japan. My original plan got washed out due to the unseasonal arrival of a typhoon off the coast of Japan at the same time I had booked the motorcycle rental. I waited till the last minute scanning the weather reports and reluctantly cancelled the booking. Fortunately the company has a clause that allows you to cancel without penalty due

Ultimate Alps Tour

It’s sticky hot here in Thailand so time to relax and write a little about my ride in Europe. (Updated) I just completed the Edelwiess Ultimate Alps tour and it really was very good. I had concerns that the daily mileage would not be enough however most days I was riding until dusk so you really would not want to lengthen the route unless riding by yourself with an earlier start and short

Easy does it, North.

I did something today I have not dared try for many years. Ride over Mt Nebo/Mt Glorious on a Sunday morning. It really is such a nice ride. As I have mentioned before I live close by however I have skipped it for some time to avoid the Sunday morning Knee Sliders and Police Blitzes’. Quiet as a mouse there today. A few motorcycles at the cafe, many more push bikes than ones with engines on

Back Road Bliss

Finally got out for a ride, and while not setting out with a big ride in mind it turned out that way. First up here is today’s route and I owe an apology to readers as I have been giving you the wrong route south of Rosebank NSW. When riding the Repentence Creek road it becomes Dunoon road and unknown to me the sealed road becomes Fox road. So my maps showing me riding Dunoon road were wrong as

The Cedar Route

Despite being tempted to ride south and stay within the less cold coastal areas I went west after a slow start. I stayed up later then I was going to watching tv and had a hard time getting going. I also left wearing regular summer socks and without my full winter gloves which I was going to regret by the time I got to Peak Crossing in route to Aratula, so I stopped to take some photos.

A winters ride

Went for a ride today and at 8 degrees that is officially a winters morning so I got to test my new ride gear also, more of that in my next post. I tried but I just can’t get interested in the Northern roads, riding the same old over and over seems mighty popular but I sure as hell don’t understand why people want to do that. I like variety. I skipped my usual fuel and embarkation point of

Hide and Seek

That's the game I think I was playing with the scattered showers today when I decided to do a smaller then usual southern ride.
The weather looked fine this morning and after a slow start I got on the road sometime before 8.00am with no real plan other than south. I know I ride there a lot, I did look at a northern ride last night and the distance to Maleny and Murwillumbah are about the same

Easter 3 day mini tour

Oxley HighwayI basically only decided to go for a ride on Thursday afternoon, and even then it was no firm plan, more an idea.

4 days off work with more of less half decent weather seemed too good to just use around home. Thursday evening I hatched a half baked plan to do a 4 day ride to the Tablelands way and getting all my gear ready and working out a route took late into the night. Next

Mr Blue Sky

Remember the song by E.L.O, Mr Blue Sky? I was humming that inside my helmet today after a long spell of wet weather. “Sun is shinin' in the sky There ain't a cloud in sight It's stopped rainin' ev'rybody's in a play And don't you know It's a beautiful new day hey, hey“ Uhm… well helps if you like 80’s tunes I guess. Last night it was still raining so I stayed up late watching an

Fine and Hot

Coolamon Scenic drive

I only meant to go for a small ride today however I got a bit carried away.

Finally a fine day that I can get out for a ride. Seems many other people were thinking the same thing. I saw it was already 31 degrees at 8.00 on the digital sign at Ormeau - it was going to be a real hot day. There were many bikes on the M1 north bound, probably to Mt Glorious as I headed
