Royal Enfield UCE500 Classic Chrome may launch in India in upcoming time

Royal Enfield Classic Chrome was first unveiled at the 2010 Indian Auto Expo, following which it was launched in the American and European markets. Many prospective buyers have been eagerly asking about this motorcycle’s Indian launch, and finally Royal Enfield seems all set to give Indian Royal Enfield the option of buying this classy motorcycle.

Mechanically, the Royal Enfield Classic Chrome 500 is not dissimilar to the Classic 500 EFI
  • 500cc engine
  • Air cooled
  • Pushrod based unit construction engine that produces a peak power of 27.2 Bhp at 5,250 rpm
  • Peak torque of 41.3 Nm at 4,000 rpm
  • Fuel injected engine will be mated to a five speed transmission

Although a non fuel injected 500cc motorcycle from Royal Enfield would be a good idea considering the fact that the Indian Bullets don’t come with the critical O2 sensor as a cost cutting measure.

While the export versions of the Classic Chrome 500 comes
18 inch wheels, the Indian model could come with a 19 inch wheel up front for better high speed stability.
Moving on to the cosmetic changes, the Classic Chrome gets dollops of chrome all around. The front mudguard, the fuel tank, the air box and the rear mudguard get chrome plated to give the Classic Chrome terrific street presence.

When the Royal Enfield Classic UCE350/500 was launched in India, many Bulleteers complained of how puny the motorcycle looked when compared to the likes of the 19 inch wheeled models like the Electra and the Machismo. So, the addition of chrome will perhaps put back the imposing presence that Bullets are always known for

Royal Enfield Recalls 2009 Bullet Motorcycles for Rear Wheel Lockup

Royal Enfield is recalling certain 2009 Bullet Electra E-5 EFI, Bullet G5 Classic EFI, G5 Deluxe EFI, and G5 Military EFI motorcycles.

These motorcycles can experience third gear galling on the clutch shaft due to lack of lubrication. This condition can allow the gear to seize to the shaft, causing rear wheel lock up.

196 units are affected.

Check out my Motorcycle Recalls feature for more details.

2009 Royal Enfield trials EFI

The Royal Enfield Trials gets the new fuel injected engine for 2009 boosting power output to 27.5 HP in standard form. This is Royal Enfield’s new fuel injected unit construction engine which is lighter and more efficient than the original motor.

The EFI version features braced ‘scrambles’ handlebars, alloy mudguards and matching bash plate, new tail light and solo seat. Updates for 2009 include vintage style block pattern trials tyres and a mini luggage rack, for which an optional pillion seat pad is available.

The upswept sports silencer fitted to the Trials bike, which is shorter and lighter than the standard part, has been re-engineered to work in harmony with the engine management unit, allowing the engine to breathe more freely and features a heat shield too.

The Royal Enfield 500 Bullet Classic at the NEC BIke Show

The new Royal Enfield Bullet 500 Classic

The new Royal Enfield Bullet 500 Classic

Royal Enfield UK are showcasing their new Royal Enfield 500 Bullet Classic at the Carole Nash International Motorcycle & Scooter Show at the Birmingham NEC this week.

The Bullet Classic 500 is apparently designed to capture the looks and feels of a classic British bike whilst offering modern reliability and performance. Of particular note is that this model features the new EFI engine, which apparently posed a challenge for the designers in adapting the EFI components like fuel pump and injector to a motorcycle which should have a feel of a classic British machine.

However I think many will agree for the photos above that Royal Enfield UK have again managed to present this model as if it were a true classic british bike with all the benefits of modern technology, including electronic fuel injection system, catalytic converters and hydraulic pushrods, to ensure reduced maintenance and modern standards of reliability.

End of an era for Royal Enfield

The longest surviving production motorcycle in the world, the Royal Enfield Bullet Classic 350cc has reached the end of the line as far as British bikers are concerned. Stocks in the UK are down to the last 100 units and no more will be imported, killed off by ever more stringent European emissions regulations, the 1950's engine cannot be adapted to meet the new regulations.

So its a sad farewell to the Royal Enfield Bullet Classic!

Ride safe.

Watsonian-Squire – history in the making

I've just published on www.inter-bike.co.uk a fascinating article on the history of Watsonian-Squire. Fo those of who don't know, they are Britain’s longest surviving motorcycle sidecar manufacturer and also who retail the Royal Enfield range of classic motorcycles in the UK. The article charts the history of this, one of the last great survivors of the British motorcycle industry from 1912 to the current day.
