no reason not to palp a fixie in the hillclimb.
Tyler M. bibs up represents for the hipsters here in Fruita, USA. when he's not crushing the vert, Tyler teaches middle school about 30 km from where he lives with his wife (and recent addition to family, Lucille) in Fruita. he usually commutes on the same bike. i'm pretty sure that he was rocking "Tommy" on the mod headphones as part of his warm-up routine.

in Le Tour de France, if a rider is fortunate enough to pass through their home town during one of the stages of the race, the pelican sometimes allows them the honor of riding ahead of the race in order to greet their families and friends who have gathered at the roadside and waited throughout the day for the arrival of their hero.
things being a bit more chill here in Fruita, Tyler didn't have to ride off the front of the bunch in order to get some last minute quality time with his new baby & baby's mama, Bobbie.

some words of encouragement for fellow participants before the race. Netana rides for Mesa State cycling and is one of their top riders.

i raced, too

after his race, this rider claimed to have "good sensations" while climbing. most normal people would call them "hallucinations".

at the start of the race we had Netana's mom, dad, brother & Chechu distributing lights to riders who didn't have their own. they have supported Netana throughout her cycling career, in addition to getting up early on their weekends off work to volunteer at Mesa State cycling team sponsored (in addition to other local) events for many years.
this is a great opportunity to again say thanks to all of the volunteers who made the event happen, as well as the Mesa State cycling team. we'll see you again next year.

Netana's mom collects the lights as tales of the battle were regaled afterwards.

BMW K1300R, 2009

BMW K1300R, 2009

Detail Value:
New price: £9,500
Engine size: 1293cc
Power: 173bhp
Top speed: 155mph
 MCN overall verdict rating is 4
It may look largely the same as the outgoing model but the latest version of BMW’s naked K1300R has had a host of small changes that add up to a much better bike all-round. With a claimed 173bhp and some seriously clever optional electronically-adjustable suspension, traction control and a long list of options to choose from, BMW has built a bike that almost defies naked bike logic. And don’t forget the new K-series range now has proper indicators rather than the confusing triple switches of old.

Engine
The motor is the biggest single area of improvement over the previous model. Engineering development was handed over to the spanner magicians at Ricardo – the same firm that designed the gearbox for the 1000bhp Bugatti Veyron hypercar. This is the first time BMW has worked with Ricardo on one of its bikes. The result is a claimed 173bhp from an increased 1293cc four-cylinder motor that is much smoother with bundles of power and torque. It’s one of the best big-capacity motors on the road today combining lovely refinement with a racing engine snarl when pushed. And yes, it’s very, very, very fast. The only question is how long you can hang on.

Aprilia Tuono 1000 R Factory, 2009

Aprilia Tuono 1000 R Factory 2009
Style
The design On the Tuono 1000, is at the service of performance and comfort. Every little detail has been developed not only to attract admiration for its refined style, but to be totally functional.

The main characteristics of the new V 60 Magnesium Evolution engine:
Optimised cylinder heads with bigger valves and one spark plug per cylinder;
57 mm throttle bodies with one injector per cylinder;
high strength conrods;
minimum weight thanks to the extensive use of magnesium;
close-ratio gearbox;
dry sump lubrication with a double trochoid pump, separate oil tank and oil cooler;
mixed gear and chain valve timing. The drive gears (one for each timing chain) are located inside the crankcase to keep the cylinder heads as compact as possible;
AVDC (Anti Vibration Double Countershaft);
Aprilia's patented PPC (Pneumatic Power Clutch) hydraulically operated, power assisted clutch system for controlling rear wheel bounce under deceleration

Frame
Every aspect of the frame, fork and suspensions has been fine tuned for perfect weight distribution. The frame is a combination of aluminium-silicon alloy castings and Peraluman 450 pressed parts.

Suspension
The fork is a Showa upside down unit, with 43 mm stanchions for a perfect balance between precision on the racetrack and comfort on the road. And to ensure that the ideal setup can be achieved for all styles and conditions, on the road and on the track alike, the fork is fully adjustable in spring preload and in compression and rebound damping.

Braking System
The braking system has undergone a number of major changes. The Tuono 1000 is equipped with Brembo Gold radial calipers featuring two separate sintered pads.
The two 320 mm floating steel discs feature a narrower braking band to minimise inertia and weight and are fixed in place by Aprilia's exclusive six spoke flange.

Components
The dashboard is a mixed (digital-analog) unit. It uses the data received over the CAN line to perform an essential autodiagnostic function for which it incorporates a dedicated memory.

The LED backlighting can be adjusted to three levels of intensity.
The headlight cluster is derived from that of the RSV, and incorporates four light units for perfect night-time visibility.
The new tail light cluster features the innovative design and LED lighting of the RSV.

Aprilia Mana 850, 2009

Aprilia Mana 850, 2009

The Aprilia Mana 850, Mana ABS
The Aprilia MANA is the state of the art in motorcycle technology. Only Aprilia, with its legendary technical skills, would have dared take on a challenge of this entity. The Aprilia 850 MANA is so advanced and so unique that it simply cannot be compared with any other motorcycle. The Mana takes all the stress from motorcycling while injecting more satisfaction and more fun into riding under all conditions, from commuting to sports touring on the open road. All you need to do to enter a whole new world is press the button on the handlebars.

The transmission management system offers a choice of three "Autodrive" mappings plus a manual, seven speed, sequential gearshift, so you can be absolutely certain to find the perfect ratio for any traffic condition and riding preference. Whether you are just nipping across town or blowing away the cobwebs on a winding country road, the APRILIA MANA always delivers the ideal response and the same unique riding satisfaction. Whatever the conditions, and whoever the rider (even the most demanding), the MANA guarantees a perfect, peak-efficiency ride that lets you discover hitherto unknown potential.

The MANA's compact, sporty and ecological 90° V twin engine is the perfect partner for this type of transmission. It is compact, powerful and ecological. Pace-setting power and torque mean brilliant performance, especially in acceleration. Virtually no other naked can keep up with a Mana as it pulls away from the lights! Yet the Aprilia 850 MANA is so amazingly easy to ride that blistering performance is well within the reach of any rider. The technology that Aprilia has developed for the 850 MANA is truly 'rider-friendly' and amazingly easy to use. The clutch lever has gone, replaced by an electronic control system that leaves you free to relax and enjoy the ride. The sequential gearshift can even be operated by a simply handlebar control as well as by the classic pedal.

The following are the characteristics that make the Aprilia Mana unique:
" 90° V twin engine with four valves per cylinder, Euro 3 homologated;
" sportgear transmission: electronically controlled sequential gearshift offering two shift modes seven speed manual or Autodrive with three mappings: Touring, Sport, and Rain
" storage compartment with non-scratch lining, large enough for a full-face helmet, with mobile phone holder, toolkit & document holder, and 12V power socket;
" under-seat fuel tank;
" brakes with radial calipers;
" 43 mm upside down fork;
" offset monoshock with spring preload and rebound adjustments;
" steel trellis frame with single piece aluminium swingarm;
" twin spark ignition;
" electronic fuel injection with single throttle body;
" latest generation two channel ABS system (ABS version only)

Design
With its exclusive, unmistakably Italian styling, the 850 MANA embodies the perfect combination of elegance and practicality. As with all Aprilia nakeds, the Mana's high-tech components make an essential contribution to overall design.
The 16 litre tank is located under the seat, lower than normal, to distribute weight more evenly and lower the bike's centre of gravity. The "traditional" tank location is occupied instead by an illuminated storage compartment that is lined with non-slip, non-scratch material and big enough to house a full face helmet. The compartment also incorporates mobile phone storage and a 12V power socket.
The MANA is the first motorcycle ever to provide fully integrated helmet storage, a unique and immensely practical advantage, especially for urban commuting and short trips. The compartment is opened electrically by a convenient switch on the handlebars. The lid opens under the control of a hydropneumatic damper that prevents accidental opening while the bike is in motion. A manually operated lever under the passenger seat is provided to release the compartment lid in the event of a flat battery.

Engine
There can be no doubt that the Mana engine has opened new horizons in the world of motorcycling, featuring as it does a twin cylinder layout, electronic fuel injection, bags of torque, and above all a revolutionary transmission system that completely replaces the conventional mechanical gearbox and delivers a whole new motorcycling experience even under sport riding conditions.
To develop this amazing new engine, Aprilia has relied on the expertise of the world's top designers and all the skill of its own R&D department.
Aprilia 90° longitudinal V twin four stroke. Liquid cooled. Single overhead cam with chain drive, four valves per cylinder.

MANA: the future of the gearbox
The most interesting aspect of the Mana engine is without a doubt its primary drive system, based on an electronically controlled, sequential transmission that offers the rider a choice of control modes.

Riders two options:
- Sequential mode: The rider decides for himself when to change gear, either using the conventional pedal or a switch on the handlebars. A servo mechanism shifts the main pulley to change between the seven gear ratios amazingly quickly. During deceleration, if the rider omit to change gear manually, the control system intervenes to change down automatically, preventing engine speed from dropping below the set threshold and providing another valuable aid to active safety.

- Fully automatic mode (Autodrive): Sophisticated electronics assume control over everything, and the CVT transmission keeps the engine running at maximum torque speed for optimum pickup and acceleration.
The Sportgear transmission offers a choice of three mappings:
Touring: for minimum consumption and maximum usability.
Sport: for top performance with blistering acceleration
Rain: for use on wet or slippery roads

- Semi-Autodrive mode allows the rider only to change down independently. This is particularly useful for overtaking at maximum torque revs or for boosting engine braking when riding down a hill.
You can switch from Autodrive to Sequential mode and back at any time, irrespective of riding conditions. The handlebar gearshift control can also be disabled from the dashboard.

The 90° V engine, chosen for torque and power delivery, is the perfect match for this type of transmission. Delivering 76 horsepower at the crank and well in excess of 7 kgm of torque (at 5,000 rpm), the engine produces an extremely flat power curve that translates into plenty of ready power even at low revs.

Frame
The robust steel tube trellis frame sets new standards for this class of machine and ensures top level handling in line with the characteristics of the innovative engine. The single piece aluminium swingarm is damped by a monoshock that is laterally offset to free up space for the exhaust pipe behind the engine and make the motorcycle more compact. The MANA has a wheelbase of only 1,463 mm, extremely short for a naked, even a sports model.

Brakes Front: double stainless steel floating disc ( 320 mm). Radial calipers with four pistons.
Rear: stainless steel disc ( 260 mm). Single piston caliper. Two channel ABS system (Mana ABS).
Suspension
The 43 mm upside down fork slides easily and features an optimised setup for excellent performance even under sport riding conditions. 120 mm of front wheel travel lets you tackle all sorts of road surface.

Brakes
Impressive stopping power is delivered by the very best braking technology currently available, developed in-house by Aprilia. Radial calipers with 4 pistons are the state of the art for motorcycle brakes and ensure maximum active safety under all braking conditions. The generous front discs are 320 mm in diameter, the standard size for Aprilia's big bikes, and are complemented by a single 260 mm rear disc.
A sophisticated two channel ABS system maximises the Mana ABS's already impressive levels of active and passive safety by preventing wheel lock on slippery surfaces and improving braking performance.

The minimalist bodywork of the FV2 1200 creates a stunning preponderance of volume towards the front of the bike. The result is a revolutionary, courageous and futuristic look that is destined to form the solid basis for the evolution of Aprilia motorcycle styling.

The engine also fulfils a structural role, and acts as the starting point for the backbone of the motorcycle, a carbon fibre, load bearing frame with integrated filter box. The seat is supported by an aluminium beam and by two carbon fibre struts that extend into the tail and around the rear light cluster. The parallelogram front suspension is based on the system already tried and tested on Aprilia's 250 cc GP racers.

These futuristic solutions have led to an amazing weight reduction (the FV2 1200 weighs under 160 kg) and an extremely compact size. The extraordinary agility that has always typified Aprilia motorcycles therefore finds its utmost expression in the FV2 1200.

The 1200 cc V twin engine is liquid cooled and boast a ride-by-wire control system. Traction control, a latest generation ABS system and electronic suspension management are also provided to let you ride at your performance peak while maintaining complete control over the bike.

The Aprilia FV2 1200's dashboard incorporates a multi-functional instrument cluster that can be interfaced not only with the bike's own CAN line but with a PC too, making it possible to download telemetric data for personal performance evaluations, reconfigure the information shown on the matrix display, load new mappings from the internet, display itineraries, and integrate GPRS and GSM modules for mobile phone connectivity.

Question:
What is worse that a complacent car driver not paying attention to a motorcycle rider?

Answer:
That motorcyclist being too complacent to notice the complacent car driver not noticing him/her.

Complacency is one of the biggest dangers of riding a motorcycle.

Yamaha Scorpio born as a motor sports genre. But who would have thought could be looking hypermotard after surgery. It turned out pretty cool. Transformation was indeed the motor owner's request, Hetmansyah Helmy, from the complex Marines Rangkapan Jaya Pura, Maruyung, Depok.

2010 BMW S1000RR Superbike might not be making big waves in World Superbike competition just yet, but today's release of photos, specifications and a hugely detailed press pack leaves us in no doubt that the new Beemer flagship will be an absolute monster on the road. A massive 193 horsepower is just the beginning - the S1000RR packs a combined ABS that's lighter and smarter than Honda's, variable intake tracts and exhaust butterflies that outdo the Yamaha and MV Agusta systems, a 4-mode variable engine mapping system that seems a lot better thought-out than Suzuki's, and a very clever traction control system that's integrated into the mind-boggling fly-by-wire engine management system in a way that seems much more logical than Ducati's. Brand new in every way, this purpose-built German superbike is set to hit showroom floors well before the end of the year.

As Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus quietly go about the long and arduous task of developing the S1000RR into a World Superbike title contender, BMW are getting set to release the brand new superbike to showrooms worldwide.

The bike is packed with some of the most sophisticated and complex technology ever seen in the motorcycle world, all tightly integrated and kept out of the rider's way in the name of huge, controllable power, the cutting edge in safety and sweet handling on wet or dry roads.

The 1198 S Corse Special Edition sports a bold red, white and black colour scheme to mark the historic introduction of a new Ducati Corse logo and celebrate the winning of both the World Superbike and Superstock Manufacturers’ titles. The Special Edition ‘S’ features a factory team-style aluminium fuel tank and race kit as well as world-beating Ducati Traction Control.

At 168kg (370.3lb) (dry weight) the Special Edition model weighs in at 1kg (2.2lb) less than the 1198 S thanks to the beautifully made lightweight fuel tank, which also boosts the bike’s fuel capacity by 2.5 litres (0.66 US gal) to 18 litres (4.75 US gal). The tank is formed in 2mm thick aluminium, brush finished and clear-coated to maintain a factory race tank feel and proudly displays the new Ducati Corse logo on top.

The 1198 R Corse comes in the red, white and black Corse Special Edition livery bodywork with the new aluminium fuel tank clear-coated for all to see. The Trellis frame is also in red with the front and rear 7-spoke Marchesini wheels finished in black. The front fender and side panels are left in a contrasting natural carbon fibre finish while the belly-pan is painted, but reveals its carbon fibre material inside the aerodynamic recess for the side-stand. A subtle ‘1198 R Corse Special Edition’ graphic on the tail fairing leaves no doubt as to what this magnificent bike is.

This top-of-the-range model is supplied with a race kit that includes a full racing exhaust system with 102dB carbon fibre mufflers by Termignoni and dedicated ECU which raises power output to approximately 186hp (intended strictly for track use only). Also in the kit is a unique Ducati Corse branded bike cover designed by Aldo Drudi and rear paddock stand as well as an official cased plaque of authentication that confirms the collectable value of this exclusive motorcycle.
