Major ice racing series hits Sarnia

From the SSEC

Ice/International Championship Events, the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre and Precision Power Sports are presenting the 33rd Annual World Championship ICE Racing Series live at the SSEC in Sarnia, ON on Friday, Jan. 30.

ICE racing's elite will be in Sarnia to do battle in two professional divisions of competition. The thoroughbreds of the sport are the Manufacturers World Cup Motorcycles. These are very high powered, lightweight, lightning quick, state-of-the-art racing motorcycles manufactured by the world's major factories and ridden by the world's top riders. Top racers from the United States and Canada will make up the stellar field competing in Sarnia.

Also competing are the Pro Unlimited Outlaw Quads. These highly modified ATV's feature big horsepower and colourful riders who just might be a little too brave for their own good! Expect some no holds barred riders and quad machines racing in Sarnia.

Among those expected are Madison, WI's Chuck Calvert and Drew "Dewey" Bergquist from Burlington, IA. Drew's older brother "Dangerous" Daniel will be trying for his third consecutive ICE Outlaw Quad World Championship.

"This is an opportunity to not only be the first to bring this exciting event to Sarnia, but also to promote the Sarnia Lambton region," said general manager Dean Collver. "We hope to work closely with local motocross and ice racing organizations in making this extreme event a success. "It's an excellent family outing and will offer sure fire excitement to people of all ages."

Racing will begin at 7:30pm on Jan. 30 and gates open at 6:30.

The first 1,000 fans through the doors receive an Official 33rd Annual World Championship ICE Racing Souvenir Program absolutely free. These full colour collectible souvenirs feature action shots, racers, historical information and are great for collecting autographs. There will be an autograph signing session immediately following the last race.
