Edwards aiming to stay put

From motogp.com

With the slots on the 2010 MotoGP grid seemingly filling up on a weekly basis recently Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s line-up for next year is still to be announced.

But Colin Edwards admitted to motogp.com on Friday at Misano that he is close to renewing his contract with team boss Herve Poncharal.

“Yamaha want to keep me,” Edwards stated. “It is just a matter of me and Herve coming to an agreement and we are pretty much there. As regards a team-mate I don’t know yet, we’ll see what the scenario is there.”

Meanwhile, giving his views on the intriguing championship battle between his factory Yamaha colleague Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, Edwards also commented, “I think it is great because there is definitely an inner-team struggle going on between them. They look like they are both pretty focused on beating each other, which is great for the sport. Not just for the end of this year, but next year too it is going to be good.”

Summarizing his own Friday performance in FP1, having lapped sixth fastest, with a best time around one second off pace-setter Rossi’s quickest effort in the Misano heat, Edwards added, “It was good, on track it was fine. Taking seven or eight laps at a time is no issue, but sure if you had to do 30 laps you would be feeling it! The bike felt good anyway, I was really happy with it.”
