Pair of podiums for Jervis

By John Hopkins

Oliver Jervis claimed a pair of third place finishes in round 3 of the Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association series at Spokane Raceway May 29-30.

The Victoria racer placed third in 600 Supersport and 600 Superbike aboard his Zlock Racing Kawasaki ZX-6R, and managed a seventh in Formula Ultra on the same bike after experiencing problems with the team's ZX-10R.

Jervis started from pole in 600 Supersport, a race that was delayed by three red flags. He caught a break on the second restart when he was stuck in neutral at the start and swamped by the field, only to have another race stoppage give him a reprieve. He led into turn 1 on the final launch but couldn't match the pace of race winner Eli Edwards and runner-up finisher Aaron Gwin.

"Racing 600's is like going to a buffet dinner with a group of starved axe murderers," Jervis said later. "The antics and ensuing carnage that occurs is mind baffling."

A set-up gamble for the 600 Superbike race went the wrong way and Jervis considered himself lucky to crack the podium, although the team got the ZX-6R well sorted for the Formula Ultra race, and Jervis worked his way up from 14th off the start to battle for seventh with Jake Rower, edging the Honda CBR1000RR at the line.
