The Long Weekend
Perth Road (Regional Road 10) runs from Kingston to Westport, ending in a breathtaking view of Upper Rideau Lake. It's a popular run for motorcyclists and motorists alike with lots of gentle curves passing through small Hamlets and by lakes galore. There's a bit of construction finishing up and I'm always cautious in the "zones", always expecting some left over loose gravel.
A beautiful day with lots of cars at the show that brought back memories of both childhood and dreams gone by. Sexy imports, the old family cruisers(the Galaxy 500 bringing back memories for both Barb and me) plus many of the American Classic Muscle cars - there was a great variety, over 80 models plus a few other unexpecteds. Barb and I had the chance to walk into the village for a bit of shopping too.
Westport Ontario (explorewestport.com) in the heart of the Rideau Lakes area. It's a quaint little tourist town sitting at the west end of Upper Rideau Lake with Westport and Sand Lakes nearby. The village is nestled at the bottom of Foley 'mountain' and the population exponentially increases on a holiday weekend, no wonder why. Delightful shops, lake and mountain views, homey little restaurants, White Mountain Icecream and today the Show and Shine Antique Car Show. If you're in the area, it's a definite destination spot.

Crutchlow sets Silverstone pace
From the WSBK Press Office
Local hero Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha Sterilgarda) set a blistering 2:05.664-second lap at Silverstone to head the first qualifying session at his home track, with no fewer than five of his compatriots inside the top 10 places in World Superbike Championship action on Friday.
The 5.902km Silverstone circuit is new to almost all of the 25 Superbike riders on show, making Crutchlow’s advantage of 0.342 secs. over the Hannspree Ten Kate Honda of Jonathan Rea an impressive first day result.
BMW Motorrad Motorsport rider Troy Corser was third quickest, with British rider Leon Camier fourth on his Aprilia Alitalia v-four. Michel Fabrizio (Ducati Xerox) made it five different bikes in the top five places with one qualifying session to go, and James Toseland (Crutchlow’s Yamaha Sterilgarda team-mate) secured sixth place.
Championship leader Max Biaggi, Camier’s team-mate, was a steady seventh, one place ahead of his main championship threat, Leon Haslam (Suzuki Alstare). Privateer Carlos Checa (Althea Ducati) was 0.811 secs. away from Crutchlow, in ninth, with the top 10 rounded out by Tom Sykes on his official Kawasaki Racing Team four-cylinder machine.
Lorenzo Lanzi (DFX Corse Ducati) was a happy 11th, as he was one place up on the official machine of Noriyuki Haga (Ducati Xerox). Shane Byrne (Althea Ducati) was 13th, the Team Pata B&G Aprilia of Jakub Smrz 14th, and 15th was a rider returning from injury, Luca Scassa (Supersonic Ducati).
Eugene Laverty (Parkalgar Honda) eased to the top of the first World Supersport qualifying session at Silverstone, 0.090 secs. ahead of UK-based series regular Gino Rea (Intermoto Czech Honda) and 0.161 secs. up on Joan Lascorz (Kawasaki Motocard.com). Championship leader Kenan Sofuoglu (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) was fourth, Miguel Praia (Parkalgar Honda) fifth.
Maxime Berger (Ten Kate Junior Honda) earned the best time in the first Superstock 1000 qualifying session in the last minute, heading off championship leader Ayrton Badovini (BMW Italia STK).
Wildcard rider Luke Mossey (Sondelsport Yamaha) was the provisional Superstock 600 pole man at Silverstone after the first day, holding off the push of championship challengers Florian Marino (Ten Kate Race Junior Honda) and Jeremy Guarnoni (MRS Racing Yamaha).

Szoke takes another Trials win
with files from Waznie Racing
Jordan Szoke won a CMA Observed Trials event in Font Hill, ON last weekend, finishing with a score of 35 in the Expert class.
Andrew Young placed second with a 69 and Will Abell was third on 90 points.
Despite some rain leading up to the event competition on the seven-section, four-loop event was held in ideal conditions.
Szoke's wife Amy made her Trails debut and carded a 67 in the Junior class.
"I was so nervous that I kept messing up on the simplest things," said Amy, winner of the most recent round of the Pro Honda Oils Women's Cup road racing series at Mosport International Raceway. "Jordan was super-patient with me and I was able to work the bugs out. Once I relaxed I rode so much better in the afternoon."
Jordan will continue the defence of his CMA national title in Tweed and Arden, ON on Aug. 21-22.

ARL prepares for East Coast invasion
HALIFAX, NS -- The Atlantic Roadracing League is gearing up for the busiest two weeks of its five-month race calendar.
The next two weeks will see the Shubenacadie circuit and surrounding areas explode with racers from all over the country as the ARL holds Round 4 of its Atlantic Championship this weekend and then plays host to the final rounds of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship the following weekend.
This will be the second year that the ARL has organized Round 4 of its regional series to be held the weekend prior to their National event. This is to allow visiting riders to come down a week early and get as much track time in as they can, plus it gives spectators a great chance to get into the swing of things before the big National the following week.
So far out of town riders have taken full advantage of this opportunity, also relishing the chance to soak up some of that famed East Coast hospitality.
The following weekend, Aug. 5-8 will see the country's best make their annual pilgrimage east for the Atlantic stop on the Parts Canada Superbike tour. This time, things are slightly different. Traditionally the east coast stop on the tour was the penultimate stop on the calendar, though this time it will be the final event. All five national titles are still undecided and if the past is any indication, AMP will provide some great races to decide the final title standings.
Adding to the excitement is a strong mix of fast local riders looking to show well in their home event. The east coast is home to some of Canada’s fastest racers with multi time Canadian Champion Don Munroe hailing from Bedford, just 40 minutes from AMP.
One of the main reasons the ARL keeps organizing the Atlantic stop of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship is to provide its riders with a chance to showcase their talent on the National level without having to travel halfway across the country.
With established national stars Jordan Szoke, Jodi Christie, Francis Martin, Alex Welsh, Steven Nickerson, Raphael Archambault and co. all ready and raring to go the stage is set for some great racing. Throw in local fast men Todd Scott, Andrew Dunlap, Ron Munroe, Charlie Legere, Austin Shaw-O’Leary and Mark Goodwin and things get even more exciting.

New features for 2011 Harleys
MILWAUKEE, WI – Harley-Davidson Motor Company is expanding its family of Great American Touring motorcycles for 2011 with the debut of the new Road Glide Ultra, a full-feature model with a frame-mounted fairing.
Harley-Davidson also introduces PowerPak, which bundles the Twin Cam 103 engine with ABS (anti-lock braking system) and the Harley-Davidson Smart Security System as either standard equipment or as an option on select Touring family models. PowerPak marks the first time Harley-Davidson has offered a Factory-installed engine-upgrade option on a production motorcycle.
Harley-Davidson will offer eight Touring models for 2011, each featuring V-Twin power and an appealing combination of technology and tradition.
Harley-Davidson combines its Ultra level of luxury touring appointments with the wind-splitting aerodynamics and lighter handling of a frame-mounted fairing in the new Road Glide Ultra. The PowerPak is standard equipment on the Road Glide Ultra model. Other features include ventilated fairing lowers, a King Tour-Pak carrier with soft luggage liners and passenger backrest, electronic cruise control and a premium Harman/Kardon Advanced Audio System with four speakers and a CB/intercom system.
The Road Glide Ultra is a touring machine for riders ready to rack up some serious mileage.
A new combination of performance and technology, PowerPak combines the Twin Cam 103 engine with ABS and the H-D Smart Security System. PowerPak is a standard feature on the 2011 Road King Classic, Electra Glide Ultra Limited, and Road Glide Ultra models, and will be available as a Factory-installed option on the 2011 Street Glide and Road Glide Custom.
The Twin Cam 103 is rated at 102 ft-lb of torque at 3,500 rpm, a 9.6 percent increase in peak torque over the Twin Cam 96 engine it replaces, giving it extra power for enhanced passing and hill-climbing performance when a passenger and luggage are on board.
Harley-Davidson Touring ABS works in conjunction with high-performance Brembo brakes to help the rider maintain control during braking, especially in less-than-optimal conditions. The components of Harley-Davidson ABS are virtually invisible, preserving the uncluttered styling of the area around the wheels. Harley-Davidson ABS is not a linked system, which means that the rider maintains full, independent control of both front and rear brakes.
The H-D Smart Security System offers automatic self-arming and disarming through the Hands-Free Fob, which communicates directly with the security module on an individualized frequency. When the rider switches off the ignition and leaves the proximity of the motorcycle, the Smart Security System disables the vehicle starter, ignition, and electronic fuel injection (EFI).
Any Touring model not equipped with PowerPak may be ordered with ABS and the H-D Smart Security System bundled together as a single Factory-installed option. These items will no longer be offered as separate options.
The seats on all 2011 Harley-Davidson Touring models have been re-shaped to enhance styling, improve rider leg reach to the ground, and to provide better lower back support. A key element of the new seat designs is a narrower forward section of the seat, which makes it easier for more riders to place both feet confidently on the ground.

18 Days - 6,300 km On A VStar
The 650 VStar Custom - I give it 4 stars
My trip lasted 18 days, at least I was away from home for 18 days. One day I spent visiting friends and relatives, not much riding and one day I spent drying out from the ride visiting friends and relatives - so really, it was 16 days of "Riding On A VStar". What a great way to vacation, new sights, new sounds, new smells, new roads, old roads and always a bit of personal and sometimes a physical challenge.
(By the way, thanks Leslie for pointing out my typos and spelling errors and for making me realize I really did have a spell check feature I could have used all along, hum, how'd that get there?)
The Bike
Yamaha 650 VStar Custom: Air cooled, 4 valve VTwin, 649cc, 5 speed transmission, shaft driven, single disc front break, rear drum break, 2340mm (92.1") long, seat height 695mm (27.4"), wet weight 233kg (512.6lb), 16 litre (3.5 imperial gal) fuel capacity, estimated mileage 21 kpl. (For more specs go to www.yamaha-motor.ca).
Accessories: Spitfire universal windscreen, Custom World 8" passenger backrest, luggage rack and saddlebag brackets, Rapid Transit soft sided top bag (fastens to backrest), Gears soft sided saddlebags, Oxford Sports Lifetime Luggage magnetic tank bag.
The bike ran like a charm, and so it should have being brand new. It drew a lot of great comments from other bikers and enthusiasts with it's luminous white paint and chrome, and flashy tank detailing (in pink I might add).
The front break developed a slight squeal after the last day of rain, but has since been checked by the mechanic, not an issue and now gone. The single disc front break rear drum break provided adequate stopping in both light and hard stops, though the rear break pedal takes some getting used to in both position and pressure required to stop.
I didn't get the estimated 336 kilometres per tank - the maximum I got, pre trip was around 250 on a tank. On the road I stopped every 150 km and kept it topped up, knowing that I could probably go another 100 km but not wanting to risk it. At 150 km it's time to take a break if you want to stay alert and safe. The tripmeter is a great way to keep track of when you need to stop and I managed to remember to reset it most times. I had the Garmin set as a back up to remind me to refuel. I was less consistent remembering to reset the Garmin fuel reminder.
The foot pegs and seat height on my "low slung" VStar are the perfect "comfort" height for me. I can rest both feet flatly on the ground at a stop and don't feel cramped on the go. The handle bars are also set in a comfortable place and distance from the seat for my reach.
I appreciated the 5 speed transmission - the range of 5th "overdrive" gear. It is particularly great when touring, usually no down shifting required when slowing down from 100 kph to 60 kph going through small hamlets or towns and lower rpms on the highway.
I found the speedometer in a less than perfect spot for a full face helmet wearing rider. It's low enough on the tank that a full head nod was required to see it - in my case, the 'on center' handle bar mounted, see at a glance Garmin replaced the speedometer and gave me a lot more information at the same time.
I appreciated the locking side cover storage area for tools, air pressure gauge and extra head phones and wires for the Garmin but the helmet lock was unusable with the saddle bags on, just not enough room for it to open.
Most favorite all round feature - the shaft drive system. No more oiling chains, checking tension of chains/belts. The extra weight is well worth it and appreciated riding in the high NewBrunswick cross winds.
Packing The Bike
For the trip I had packed approximately 95 lbs of gear plus myself so the VStar was what I would call loaded to capacity or at least loaded to the maximum weight that I felt comfortable with, especially making a few of those U turns in tight spots. The loaded weight was close to 720 lbs. Since I'm not into body building and don't consider myself particularly Amazonian or even strong the weight is something that has made me always shy away from heavier bikes. And if you've been following along I did have a problem in one location trying to back the bike up in a tight spot. The bike is well balanced and I had no issues on the straight stretches or curves of the road carrying the weight. The extra overall length gained mainly by the roomy passenger seat and luggage rack that extended the length of the bob tail rear fender accommodated much of the extra gear I packed for this solo trip. On the Suzuki the top bag, fastened to the front of the passenger backrest became my backrest, but on the VStar there was gap large enough to cargo net a rolled Mountain Equipment Coop 2 person backpacker tent and sleeping bag (tent poles and sleeping pad were packed lower in a saddle bag). I appreciated the rolled tent and bag as they became my backrest making for comfortable touring. I had sufficient seat and leg room but if you are much taller than 5'3.5" you might find it cramped and need a more foot forward peg style or an overall longer bike (the VStar 650 Classic is, I believe, a bit longer than the custom and not that much heavier). I tried to pack as much weight as low as possible and thus the ripping of the over-stuffed and travel worn saddle bags early on. The saddle bags and top bag all expand to nearly double the zipped up size so, to prevent further ripping, I expanded the saddle bags to the max. Ripped, the saddle bags were even less water resistant than usual, luckily I had most things in plastic bags or dry bags inside. The top bag has proven to be quite waterproof in the past, but I always line it with a kitchen size garbage bag just to be safe. My netbook and collapsible cooler were cargo netted to the luggage rack. The net book securely inside a 20lb dry bag which did the trick.
I've finally figured out the ideal footwear to have with me. Of course I have the protective riding boots - that's a given, but they are not great off the bike (heavy, hot and high). In the past I've always tried to pack hiking boots or running shoes plus sandals. This year I found a much better balance by taking some "light hikers" by Sketchers. Lower and much lighter than either running shoes or hikers and great for the 4k evening walks or just strolling around town. Plus I took a pair of rubber flip flops for poolside and campground and they easily slid in amongst the rest of the gear. As usual,I packed a few articles of clothing that never made it out of the bag, less this year than last but I wonder how does one judge that? I guess you just have to keep reminding yourself, there are laundry facilities out there! The cosmetics, well don't get me going, I may have to haul a trailer to keep up with what's needed there (ah, the vanity).
I didn't carry much food with me I'd either stop when I thought I was getting ready to end the day or rely on the camp store or a nearby restaurant for dinner. The cooler was most useful when I set up camp for the extended stays on the Island and grocery bagging it - much less expensive than 'restauranting' it for sure.
Honda Vario Street Fighter Modification
Concept selection is to suggest a more sophisticated motor and has a sporty impression, when seen from the standard form of this motor Vario has been amended nearly 100 percent,
"The concept of my motorcycle Street Fighter made its name, the reason being I feel the concept's motor Vario usually matic she seems shallow, if I input the street fighter-class seems a little bit forward to the sport. So basically I like motor sport, so I have a plan to make Vario a motor sport, "ujarnya.Sedangkan the percentage changes were made to this Vario Fhilips says," 100 percent change ".
To change the motor is more focused on the motor body and legs, about the engine and framework embedded into it still relies on the original manufacturer of the Vario, "Only the innate Vario wrote the same machine next order only". Taking an idea from one of the automotive media, make changes to Fhilips Vario by removing some of the body and the legs of the original factory built, "If the change of the motor, rear body already using CS 1, the body behind him dicustom, let me put sweet little cover below same order triggers Street Fighternya, the leg-foot radius of my car put acrylic halved, measured and dibubut, so all the legs using acrylic. If most of all custom wheels ".
In order to look sexy, then change the order back Fhilips while to show the impression of street fighter extended handlebar. Fhilips added, "I am feeling very happy, yes, indeed I hope to catch The Best Black". For the final plan later Fhilips will complete the front legs let more robust.

Along with the development that occurred in rend Pontianak make Brenda a change of mind to update the look of two-wheeled milikya. Quite a few changes made, look out alias beautiful body clad in a red color candytone. As for bodinya rely ABS plastic material which is actually a cover of another motor, just needed a little change in the way mengemal perbagian side that will be built. The impression that was built to be more sporty models thanks to the front of the tank actually has a function as a cover of the oil container side.

Hayden pleased with Laguna effort
Roger Lee Hayden’s weekend at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix was an all-round success for the American, who achieved 11th place on the RC212V of the LCR Honda team last Sunday as he stood in for the injured Randy de Puniet at Laguna Seca.
The younger of the Hayden brothers improved throughout the weekend, shaving just over 1.6 secs. off his lap times from the first practice to qualifying. Finding the difference in the carbon front brakes used in MotoGP to the metal ones he is accustomed to in World SBK and the Bridgestone tires two of the main challenges, the 27-year-old rose from 17th on the starting grid to take five championship points in his second premier class race.
“This was a very good race for me. After the start I got boxed in at the first corner and after that it took me a few laps to find my pace. The rest of the guys had taken a few seconds on me but I started to pull them back in and I did my fastest lap of the whole weekend in doing so. I charged hard and caught De Angelis and with two laps to go I passed him and took 11th place,” said Hayden.
“At the start of the week I really did not think I could have taken 11th place. I really want to thank the LCR Team for this fantastic opportunity. Everybody in the team has bent over backwards to help me in every way. The guys worked really hard on the bike and made it very comfortable for me to ride. They put absolutely no pressure on me this weekend for a result but this is the American GP and all my friends, family and fans are here so I wanted to give them all a good result.
"I would love a chance to ride for this team again as they are a fantastic bunch of guys and the machine they gave me was perfect.”
Team owner Lucio Cecchinello stated, “First I want to wish Randy a very quick recovery and want to thank the team for their great work this weekend. Despite the bad luck we have decided to come here and do our best as always. We are pleased with Roger’s result because he improved his feeling on the bike session by session and during the race he was focused and tough especially when he passed De Angelis with two laps to go.”

"This is a pure creation of the TPF (Fiber Twin Planet) and we do not want to change a motor sport. That is the challenge," said Arno. Usually, the theme is identical to the naked sport bike.
To fulfill his obsession, the order does not have a cut and changed. Including the position of the tank under the seat, that part will be retained.
Radical changes appear in the swing arm. New designs with the trellis model as is often done in DELTABOX motor sport. This is one feature of naked wing motor sport. Because of the vital functions, large iron pipe 2 inches in diameter attached there.
Because the swing arms bare, it is more appropriate if a single rear suspension (Monoshock) using a Suzuki Satria 120R. Continues, the full body custom, according to Arno, self-designed single-seater model.
In order to impress the motor racing, then the stern pointed contrived. The center made a kind of additional chassis style DELTABOX using glass fiber material.
Note the two large wheels. This is precisely homemade and Arno ensure that conditions are strong. Front suspension models also upside down own handiwork. Interestingly again, a double exhaust tip is a variation of the car.
Kraknaji 250 Supermoto Modification
What is clear, not artificial plant, but the home modifications Hawex Custom Factory (HCF) of the Village Ciilat, Sukadaga, Ciamis, West Java. Builder him, Uus Husnaeni, known for its handmade detail in each design component. Included in this Kraknaji 250 Supermotorad has earned not buy components so.
Hence, some components used in the 1997 Honda Tiger base made modify by Uus. Like a skeleton with a minimalist concept. Uus said, like the European supermotorad.
Most interesting, note the swing arm. "Shape banana or banana model," stated Uus. Such a model chosen because of various considerations. In addition to a shorter wheelbase, this form comes to minimizing, if charging off-road terrain. The arm swing is made with CNC machines from composite materials of aluminum and steel.
Meanwhile in another part, the builder designed it perfectly. For example, artificial slim tank, but fit accommodates 7 liters. Trus, chassis strengthening in the center and backbone nets model tubular contrived.
"This motor is very ridiable. Weighs 98 kg with a 142 cm wheelbase and seat height of 52 cm," said the owner. Ground clearance constrained by 35 cm in height in order not concerned.
If there is going to change, let alone done myself, Uus sell components separately. The entire package, starting from the chassis, swing arm, seat and tank dibanderol USD 7.5 million.
Suzuki Smash Racing Look Modification
The most striking change was the application of the light house Yamaha X1-R from Thailand. So much like the Transformers robot, the front of the house following with given a touch of custom lamps. Especially in the shell of the lamp, right and left wing to cover protects the bottom half of the engine looks. In addition, there is in the form of seats, covers plus side to the stern of deliberately contrived sepatbor different.
According to the Court, put the cover body X1-R in Smash quite complicated. You see, there are several components that must be cut, plus, and moved. In addition, he had to reset the handle cover mounting bolts, from front to rear.
So, shockbreker double standard models modified to Monoshock. This makes replacement of the standard swing arm turned into handmade products from the aftermarket. Great was not haphazardly done that part, as well as other sections, because the goods are used and given a little expensive custom touch.
Special exhaust, this Court guarantee a good part because her voice a little more good and able to increase power. Apart from good to hear, according to Agung, exhaust was fitted to these changes. He predicts, the concept of combined racing look would be noticeable color trends.
