2008 UK Motorcycle sales only down 3.4%

The Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) have just released the figures which show that total motorcycle registrations only fell by 3.4% over 2007. This is fantastic news given the credit crunch and current economic conditions.

139,715 motorcycles, mopeds and scooters were registered in 2008, only 4,866 registrations down on 2007.

Motorcycle Sales significantly down in May!

So the UK recession is biting. According to figures released by the MCIA (Motor Cycle Industry Assocation), sales of powered two wheelers in the UK fell by a whopping 13.2% in May compared to May last year.

The MCIA say "This is in line with a general fall in high street spending, with consumers being very careful about how they spend their money. We are all feeling the pinch with high taxation, increasing household bills and the credit squeeze."

However amongst this bad news there is some good news, moped sales increased by 47%!

This week MAG , the BMF and the MCIA have all put out press releases concerning the release of the true Motorcycle Vehicle Evasion Duty evasion figures, which surprise, surprise are massively lower than the claimed 40% by the DVLA.

The actual figures from the Department of Transport into the true levels of VED indicates that motorcycle VED evasion is estimated at 6.5%.

What a climb down!! At least the truth is now out.

MCIA speaks up for motorcycling!

David Taylor, chief executive of the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA) is calling for government, legislators, local authorities and transport planners to start treating motorcycling as a serious and relevant alternative to the use of cars and public transport.

Well about time too! Why oh why is motorcycling constantly ignored in the UK, as a viable alternative form of congestion reducing transport! Thousands of people use motorcycle, scooters and mopeds to commute to and from work or just to get from A to B. Motorcycling is a cheap enjoyable form of transport, yet it's IGNORED!!

Plus here at inter-bike we'd like to know what you think?
