BMW's World Enduro team annouced

San Remo, IT - BMW Motorrad Motorsport officially unveiled it’s 2008 World Enduro Championship team in Arma di Taggia, near San Remo, Italy. Anders Eriksson, Jean-Francois Goblet and Bert Meyer, who had already been presented at the Milan and Madrid motorcycle shows, and were at the disposal of journalists. As a surprise the team introduced Simo Kirssi as a fourth rider for the WEC. The factory rider will not only compete in the European Cross-Country-Championship, but also classic enduro races.

2008, marks the first year the BMW will compete in the entire WEC season with their new motorsports project. BMW Motorrad head of motorsports, Berti Hauser, is looking at the upcoming season as a year for gaining experience. The goal of the team, lead by Wolfgang Fischer (Team Manager) and Markus Theobald (Technical project manager) is to strengthen cooperation and constantly push technical development. Junior class rider, Bert Meyer, will try to establish himself in the international field, while doing this he will also be able to benefit from Anders Eriksson s experience. Rookie Simo Kirssi as well will try to get as much experience as possible in enduro, however his focus will remain on cross country.

Jean-Francois Goblet will use his first year as a pro to get used to the four stroke engine which is completely new to him. In the second half of the season the team wants to be fit enough to score a top position here and there. In addition to the four factory riders Joel Smets will take part in a couple of selected off-road events. Andreas Lettenbichler and Gerhard Forster will be the riders for Extreme Enduro races.
