BOWMANVILLE, ON -- Kevin Lacombe used a bold outside pass of Jordan Szoke on the final lap to win the Yoshimura Pro 600 Sport Bike race at Mosport International Raceway on Saturday. Lacombe’s Team Toyota Yamaha / Fast Company Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 crossed the line just 0.146 secs. ahead of the Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX-6R of Szoke.
Chris Peris completed the podium on his Team Suzuki / Blackfoot / Picotte Racing Suzuki GSX-R600.
Saskatoon’s Brett McCormick crashed out of the lead on the opening lap on his Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX-6R, bruising his ribs, which forced him to miss the subsequent Superbike race.
Despite losing his first Pro 600 Sport Bike race of the year Szoke continues to lead the Pro 600 Sport Bike standings with 152 points to the 129 of Lacombe.
Series leader Andrew Nelson of Kars, ON edged his NCR-Ducati 848 teammate Valter Bartolini by just 0.003 secs. to win the Canadian Thunder round. Bartolini took the lead from Nelson on the final lap but Nelson was able to repass the Bologna, Italy native on the run to the line.
Darren James of North Vancouver completed the podium on his Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada / Ruthless Racing Buell 1125R.
Bowmanville, ON’s A. J. Simiana won the Canadian Sport Twins race on his Ducati S2R/Sport Classic with series leader Jim Proulx of Ottawa second on a Buell XB12R.
Cody Matechuk of Cochrane, AB won his second straight Suzuki SV650 National Cup race, finishing 5.179 secs. ahead of Brantford, ON’s Rob Busby. Points leader John Jarvie of Burlington, ON completed the podium.
Poor weather conditions led to the cancellation of qualifying for the Armour Bodies Amateur 600 Sport Bike Championship. Morning practice times will be used to set the grid, putting Keene, ON’s Jodi Christie on the pole for Sunday’s race. The series points leader turned a time of 1:26.099 on his Yamaha YZF-R6.
Feature races will also be held Sunday for the Yoshimura Pro 600 Sport Bike, Canadian Thunder, Canadian Sport Twins and Suzuki SV650 National Cup classes.
