SHUBENACADIE, NS -- Kevin Lacombe gained four points on Jordan Szoke in the Yoshimura Pro 600 Sport Bike standings by claiming pole for this weekend’s races at Atlantic Motorsport Park.
Riding his Team Toyota Yamaha / Fast Company Racing Yamaha YZF-R6, Lacombe was the fastest of six riders to get under the previous class record, turning a lap of 1:07.472. Andrew Nelson (Nelson Racing Yamaha YZF-R6) of Kars, ON was second with a 1:07.604 and Calgary's Chris Peris (Team Suzuki / Blackfoot / Picotte Racing Suzuki GSX-R600) placed third at 1:07.933.
Szoke was bumped from the fourth spot by teammate Canadian Kawasaki Motors teammate Brett McCormick in the dying moments of the session and failed to add to his class leading point total. He now leads Lacombe by 24 points, 194-170, heading into this weekend’s pair of races, the fifth and sixth rounds of the seven-race national campaign.
In other action at AMP, Nelson closed to within a point of NCR-Ducati teammate Valter Bartolini in the Canadian Thunder standings by qualifying on pole with a lap record time of 1:09.277 on his Ducati 848.
Bologna, Italy’s Bartolini qualified second at 1:10.715 and Erick Beausejour of Val D’Or, QC was third with a time of 1:11.631 on the KTM Canada KTM Super Duke 990 R.
Ottawa’s Jim Proulx extended his lead in the Canadian Sport Twins class to 41 points by qualifying on pole for this weekend’s races with a time of 1:12.866 on his Buell XB12R.
Jodi Christie of Keene, ON also stretched his lead in the Armour Bodies Amateur 600 Sport Bike class by qualifying on pole with a track record of 1:10.077 aboard his Yamaha YZF-R6. His closest title challenger, Calgary’s Patrick Marques qualified second on a Suzuki GSX-R600 with a 1:11.116 and now trails Christie by 45 points, 158-113.
Cochrane, AB’s Cody Matechuk gained two points on class leader John Jarvie of Burlington, ON by claiming pole for the Suzuki SV650 National Cup races at AMP with a time of 1:12.741.
Series leader Raphael Archambault of St-Colomban, QC qualified on pole for the Honda CBR125R Challenge with a 1:29.748.
Feature races in all classes will run Saturday and Sunday.
