Lawrence leads the way

Doug Lawrence took over top spot in the CMA Canadian Dirt Track Championship with victory in the Expert Open class in round two at Welland, ON's Niagara Raceway on June 19.

Jon Cornwell placed second riding a Honda and Jeff Seguin was third in the event aboard a Rotax.

Mississauga, Ont.'s Lawrence now has 43 points in the standings while Seguin, from Welland, and Erin, Ont.'s Cornwell are tied for second with 36 points each.

Seguin grabbed the lead in the Expert 450 standings with a victory on his Honda in Welland, topping Doug Beattie of Burlington, also Honda-mounted, and Tonawanda, N.Y.'s Joe Hartrich. Seguin leads Beattie by five points in the standings, 41-36.

Tyler Seguin of Welland and Port Colborne, Ont.'s Dale Thompson head the Intermediate Open and 450 standings, respectively after taking wins in round two of the CMA Series.

Top Novice so far this year is Harold Peters of St. Catahrines, who holds down first place in the 600 and 450 classes on a KTM despite being shut out of victory lane in Welland. Joe Bartello of Batavia, N.Y. took the wins in both classes in round two on a Yamaha.

Other winners at Niagara Raceway on June 19 were Sam Manyon of Clarence, N.Y., who leads the Veteran +40 standings, Caistorville, Ont.'s Jeff Orosz, who maintained his perfect record in Speedway this season, Welland's Dustin Lambert, who is unbeaten in Yoth 60cc, and Connor Bekker-Thompson of Port Colborne, who moved into first place in Youth 50cc.
