McWhirter sweeps to CBR win

BOWMANVILLE, ON -- Ian McWhirter of Calgary romped to victory in the eighth round of the Honda CBR125R Challenge at the Mosport International Speedway kart track on Sunday night.

Starting from pole position, McWhirter completed the 14 laps 19.836 secs. ahead of Milan Jablan, with series points leader Ryan Appenrodt rounding out the podium.

While McWhirter pulled away at the front Jabland and Appenrodt engaged in a furious battle for second, which went in favour of the Saskatoon rider by a mere half a second.

Appenrodt extended his lead in the Honda CBR125R Challenge standings, however, as his closest threat, Loic Viscasillas could only manage an 11th place finish in Sunday night's race. The Quesnel, BC racer now has 360 points to the 303 of Viscasillas heading into the season-ending doubleheader at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, NS Aug. 6-8.

Rob Haynes of Calgary took fourth at Mosport and Sarnia, ON's Will Hornblower rounded out the top five. Hornblower remains third in the series standings with 227 points.
