Schouten still stuck on sidelines

By John Hopkins

Defending Pro Honda Oils Women's Cup champion Vicki Schouten will be on the sidelines for this weekend's Parts Canada Superbike Championship doubleheader at Mosport International Raceway as she continues to recover from foot injuries sustained in May.

Schouten had hoped to be back in action aboard her Kahuna Powersports Kawasaki ZX-6R but following an appointment with her doctor on Tuesday she has elected to postpone her comeback.

"My foot is healing well, but it was highly recommended that I do not race for at least another month, which essentially puts me out of contention for the remainder of the Parts Canada Superbike national season," Schouten said in an email. "While the bones are starting to mesh together again, too much activity or weight bearing, or worse, another racing incident, could cause further and more complicated longer term damage to my foot. Until the bones are stable enough racing is pretty much out of the question."

Schouten suffered a compound fracture in her foot in a highside during a RACE SuperSeries regional event at Shannonville Motorsport Park on May 15.

SPEED TV's Greg White will deputize for Schouten at Mosport, as he did at the previous Parts Canada Superbike Championship round at Calgary's Race City Motorsport Park two weeks ago, competing in the Pro Sport Bike class.

Preparation of the bike will again be handled by the Competition Systems team, led by Richard Winter and returning team member Mark Orchard.

"I have no doubt Greg will once again represent the team well at Mosport, and with added backing from Competition Systems and mechanic Mark Orchard I think Greg will be great," Schouten added. "He brings a lot of enthusiasm to the sport and I am very thankful he could make the trip up to Canada to help out once again.

"As for me, I am allowed to start riding my bicycle and I can even start to do a few trackdays on my motorcycle and my focus has now turned to the 2011 season. I will be heading out west shortly where I will spend the next month riding my bicycle and doing trackdays on my ZX-6R, with the intent of racing some of the WERA West series in the USA this coming winter. My goal is to come back stronger and faster than ever in 2011 so look out."
