Seeley wins at North West 200

From Metzeler

Using the new Metzeler Racetec tire, Alastair Seeley and his Relentless Suzuki took the Superstock win in last weekend's North West 200 road race in Northern Ireland.

The Superstock race was quite the red flag affair due to inclement weather conditions, but Seeley took the victory on a 2009 GSX–R1000 by TAS Racing. His teammate, Cameron Donald, narrowly missed out on a podium in fourth place.

In the Supersport race, Bruce Anstey of the same Relentless Suzuki squad swapped positions at the head of the field with Steve Plater, and although Anstey briefly held the lead on the final lap, the road racing specialist had to settle for second behind Plater at the checkered flag.

The race weekend was cut short due to inclement weather prior to the second Superbike race.

The high speed event takes its name from the main race of the afternoon - the 'North West 200,' originally ran over 200 miles before it was changed to the current format of six separate races each running 4-6 laps of the 8.966-mile circuit between Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine, 8.83 miles on the first lap of every race.

The race carries tradition for both Irish road-racing fans and those who follow the Isle of Man TT races and attracts thousands of fans, many of whom camp on fields beside the circuit. It is the largest annual sporting event in Ireland, with over 100,000 visitors from all over the world every year.

The crowd, acknowledged as Northern Ireland’s biggest for sporting occasions, witnessed Superstock, Supersport, 125 & 250cc, and Superbike races for a weekend filled with adrenaline.
