WERA partners with AMA for vintage event

From the American Motorcyclist Association

PICKERINGTON, OH -- AMA Racing, the amateur-racing arm of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), has announced that it has partnered with WERA Motorcycle Roadracing to oversee road-race operations at the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, set for July 24-26 during AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH.

In addition, AMA Racing has made available the road-racing class structure, the necessary supplemental rules to existing amateur racing rulebooks and pre-entry registration forms at AmericanMotorcyclist.com.

"Since we announced the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, which are designed to give our vintage racers the AMA recognition they have long deserved, our intention has been to work with partners to help with the operations of each discipline," said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. "WERA Motorcycle Roadracing is one of the country's leading amateur road-racing organizations, and brings both the know-how and hands-on knowledge to see that the on-track portion of our program happens without a hitch."

Added WERA Motorcycle Roadracing Owner and CEO Evelyne Clarke: "It has always been WERA's goal to support motorcycle road racing in the United States and grow the sport's audience. Helping the AMA with the road-racing portion of the AMA Vintage Grand Championships supports that goal. WERA Motorcycle Roadracing has run a vintage series since our inception, and we can offer our services to the AMA and also give WERA vintage racers an additional event they can participate in. This is good for both the AMA and WERA, and we are happy to be a part of the event."

As part of its involvement with the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, WERA Motorcycle Roadracing is also making the event a points-paying meet for WERA vintage racers who compete in classes at the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships that are comparable to WERA's vintage class structure.

Racers also will compete for AMA Racing national championships, and winners of A classes will earn National No. 1 plates to defend at the 2010 AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships. All road-racing classes are considered A classes at the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships.

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days includes vintage racing, North America's largest motorcycle swap meet, bike shows, demo rides of current production bikes, motorcycling seminars, stunt shows, the new product Manufacturers' Midway and club corrals featuring marque and regional clubs. The Marque of the Year for 2009 is BSA. The Classic Clubs this year will be the Sandcast Only Owner's Club (SOOC), and the International CBX Owners Association.
