Construction begins on Daytona dirt track

From Daytona International Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – As motorcycles buzzed around Daytona International Speedway’s road course during last weekend’s Fall Cycle Scene races, bulldozers were making noise outside turns 1 and 2 in the West Lot as construction was underway on the quarter-mile dirt track.

Construction on the track, which will be made up of lime rock, will be complete in time for next year’s March 3-4 AMA Pro Racing Flat Track motorcycle events, which are a part of 2010 Daytona 200 Week By Honda.

The new dirt track at Daytona International Speedway, which will also be utilized for other events such as the high performance karts from the World Karting Association during Daytona KartWeek by Cometic Gasket on Dec. 28-30, will have more than 5,000 temporary seats and lighting will be provided by Musco Lighting.
