HAMILTON, ON -- Danny Hewitt of Cochrane, AB claimed both the Expert 600 and Expert 250 wins at the opening round of the CMA Western Canadian Championship Ice Race series in Rimbey, AB Feb. 20.
Hewitt rode his Honda to victory over the Kawasakis of Calgary's Andy Demsky and Kamloops racer Dan McKenzie in Expert 600.
Demsky placed second in the Expert 250 class while another Cochrane rider, Bryan Watt on a Yamaha placed third.
Other class winners included Carlin Ayerhart (Lethbridge, Yamaha) in Intermediate / Expert 200; Wayne Boylan (Cochrane, Honda) in Intermediate 600; Phil Hooper (Elkford, BC, Yamaha) in Intermediate 250; Stephen Deering (Rimbey, Honda) in Novice 600; Mike Hildebrand (Lethbridge, Honda) in Novice 250; and Valerie Hopwood (Calgary, KTM) in Novice 200.
