Former racer goes electric

From thebearchair.com

Former Canadian road racer Dave Wright is introducing a line of electric LEVs (Light electric vehicles) to the Canadian market.

His new company, Wats is starting with a line of electric bikes (e-bikes). The first four models available fall under the new Canadian regulations, which allow a two- or three-wheeled vehicle to be operated without a license or insurance, as long as it has a maximum speed of 32 km/h. You must be at least 16 years old and are required to wear a bicycle helmet.

The Wats WM1 Monster incorporates a 48-volt battery pack and a 350-watt rear hub motor. The heart of this type of bike is a high torque, low rpm motor, which is actually the rear hub.

With a range of up to 60 km and a cost of only pennies per charge, these zero emission vehicles are heralding in a new era of low environmental impact transportation.

In the works are electric scooters capable of 80 km/h with a range of 50 km, which will require a scooter or motorcycle license.

The WM1 model retails for $999. Dealer inquiries welcome.
