Kahuna and Kawasaki back with Schouten

From Vicki Schouten

WOODBRIDGE, ON - Kahuna Powersports, in cooperation with Canadian Kawasaki Motors, has announced that they will once again support veteran female racer Vicki Schouten in her 2009 campaign in the Parts Canada Superbike, RACE Regional and Women’ Cup Challenge series.

Schouten, equipped with Kawasaki’s flagship middleweight ZX-6R, celebrated a career best season in the competitive Amateur 600 field in 2008, with a 12th place National and ninth place regional overall finish. Schouten also finished third overall in the Expert category of the Women’s Cup Challenge series in 2008.

"I am going into my third season with Kahuna Powersports and Canadian Kawasaki Motors,” Schouten said. “They have treated me like family all along and provided me with the best equipment available. I have no doubt that 2009 is going to be another successful season aboard the ZX-6R. I can’t wait.”

Schouten realizes that to run an effective race program one not only needs the best equipment, but also the best crew. She is excited to announce the addition of a new lead mechanic and crew chief Jim Brooks, who many will know as the lead mechanic to 2008 multiple Amateur Champion Jodi Christie.

“Last year I was kind of on my own for most of the season,” explained Schouten. “Jim was always available to help me out in a pinch even when he was busy with Jodi’s program. The opportunity presented itself and I am really excited to have Jim on board. He is a true professional, he knows how to win championships and has years of advice and wisdom behind him. I have no doubt we’re going to make a great team.”

Brooks also recently accepted the RACE Tuner of the Year Award in conjunction with Jodi’s dad and crew chief Gary Christie.

In addition to mechanical support, Schouten will also continue to have her chassis tuning and suspension needs met by John Sharrard of Accelerated Technologies. Schouten will continue to receive valued help and support in 2009 from Bell Helmets, Performance Under Gear, Giro Eyewear, Komodo Gear, Bickle Racing and Auto Trim & Signs.
