Fast start for Zottmann

CALGARY, AB -- Multi-time CMRA champion Mike Zottmann opened his 2009 season at Round Two of the Masters of the Mountain series at Miller Motorsports Park.

While some mechanical issues arose on the first day, Saturday afternoon would prove to be a winner. Teamed up with Steve Davidson and Shane Turpin, Zottmann and his team-mates managed to completely dominate and win the Endurance GTO race.

Next up was King of the Mountain qualifying, which landed Zottmann second on the grid beside Turpin.

After starting from the back row in Superbike, Zottmann was able to pull off a second place finish. Next up was Open Superstock, which again found Zottmann gridded on the back row. He blasted off early with the leaders and took the lead on the second lap, pulling out about a five-second lead on his way to the win.

In the King of the Mountain race Zottmann was unable to keep pace with Turpin but managed to secure a second place finish.

Next races were at the CMRA weekend May 23-24 and Zottmann had everything in place.

Race City Motorsports Park was showing some serious degradation and it was difficult to make any forecasts with multi-time champion Pete Holzinger on the grid.

The Sunday morning Heavyweight race had Zottmann gridded on the front row and off to a great start. He dove into corner one in first position and never looked back, pulling a massive margin of victory over Holzinger and setting a fastest time of 1:16.850.

In the Superbike race Zottmann again took the lead going into corner one and on lap two he set a new regional lap record of 1:16.774.

“I just kept pushing hard pulling out on Pete and by the last lap of the race I was going into corner two while Pete was just coming out of the chute," Zottmann explained. "We were out to prove a point.”
