From BMW Motorrad Canada
Two races into the 2009 FMSQ Enduro Championship series, BMW Motorrad Canada Motorsports factory rider Guy Giroux leads both the extreme-cross and enduro-cross championships.
After a hard-fought race in miserable rain-soaked conditions, Giroux rode the BMW Motorrad Canada Motorsports G450X to first place with a dramatic half-lap lead in the highly technical extreme-cross race in the FMSQ season-opener in Granby, QC on May 9.
He followed this performance in similarly challenging conditions on the enduro-cross race the following day, pounding through endless mud-holes and generally gruesome terrain to finish second – some six minutes ahead of the third place finisher.
At round two of the FMSQ in Beauce, QC on May 31, on a fast, yet slippery track, Giroux again encountered miserable weather, including hail, but nevertheless, in his inimitable "banzai" style, rode the BMW G450X to a first place finish in the enduro-cross event.
"The bike was just awesome both on the trails and the grass, with excellent power," enthused Giroux. "Not bad for a dual-sport bike.
"The first two races were a great test for both the BMW and me. I am really looking forward to the next race, which is a really fast course where the BMW will feel right at home."
As the FMSQ series ramps up for round three in Ferme-Neuve, QC on June 27-28, Giroux holds a seven-point lead over second place Michael Metcalf (KTM).
The next three weeks will be spent in training and further testing and tuning of the BMW Motorrad Canada Motorsports G450X.
Giroux will have a formidable schedule for the balance of the season as he will be riding the BMW Motorrad Canada Motorsports G450X in seven out of the remaining eight races in the FMSQ schedule, while simultaneously competing in the brand-new eight-race Canadian Enduro Championship starting July 4-5 in Blairmore, AB.
Incredibly, he’ll also find time to compete in some Motocross events on "spare" weekends, and the Montreal Supercross.
