Turple Bros. sponsors Superbike round

From Fast Track Promotions

CALGARY, AB – Fast Track Promotions Inc., organizer of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship round at Calgary’s Race City Motorsport Park, has announced that Red Deer motorcycle dealership Turple Bros. Ltd. - Suzuki will be title sponsor of the June 25-28 event.

The race will be the third round of Canada’s national motorcycle road racing tour and the 28th Superbike national to be held at the Calgary track in its long and storied history.

“Turple Bros. is an iconic name in the history of western Canadian motorcycling,” said Tim Johnson, president of Fast Track Promotions. “It is a real honour to have them support this event.”

Turple Bros. is one of Canada’s true motorcycle success stories. It was founded in 1949 in the farming community of Olds by Glenn and Rex Turple, and the brothers moved it to Red Deer in 1956. The dealership moved into its current 46,000 square foot location in 2000.

“It’s great to see how excited Tim and Kel Davidsen have become about putting on this event,” said Brenda Neufeld, Glenn Turple’s daughter and now one of the co-owners of Turple Bros. “They needed someone to support them and we felt we should step in. Dealerships need to be involved in events like this. This is what makes the industry grow.

“My uncle [Rex] was very involved in racing. He did hillclimb, flat track, motocross; he even ran a road race in 1950. Our whole family has enjoyed going to the races over the years. We also work quite a bit with Parts Canada.”

Rex Turple died of cancer in 1990 but 80-year-old Glenn continues to be an active rider and is strongly engaged in the business he started 60 years ago.

There are concerns that this could be the last Parts Canada Superbike event at Race City as the track is scheduled to be shut down in April, 2010.

“If this is the last event at Race City we need to show people the strength of the sport,” Neufeld added. “We need a national event in this part of the country and if we aren’t going to have Race City available we need to get another track built.”

The Turple Bros. – Suzuki / Parts Canada Superbike Championship round at Race City Motorsport Park will feature three full days of racing action on the 3.2km (2.0-mile) road course, with practice for all five national classes on Friday, June 26, qualifying on Saturday, June 27 and races on Sunday, June 28.
