BOWMANVILLE, ON -- Vicki Schouten of Richmond, ON put her Kahuna Powersports Kawasaki ZX-6R on pole for this weekend's Pro Honda Oils Women’s Cup doubleheader at Mosport International Raceway on Friday with a qualifying time of 1:29.532.
Schouten bounced back from a mechanical issue earlier in the day to claim the top starting spot.
Genevieve Lesieur of Quebec City was second quickest at 1:30.912 on her Chaine Performance Suzuki GSX-R600 and Natalie Catherine Provost qualified third aboard the Les Souers en Vrac Honda CBR600RR with a time of 1:31.423.
Championship leader Vanessa Gareau-Dominguez will start fifth on her Seamont Brokerage Suzuki GSX-R600.
The Women's Cup races will run at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon and 11:40 a.m. Sunday morning.
Jeremie Hade Precourt of Granby, QC will start on pole for this weekend’s Suzuki SV650 National Cup races after setting the fastest time in qualifying with a 1:32.662. Points leader Raphael Archambault of St- Colomban, QC was second quickest at 1:32.722 and Brantford, ON’s Rob Busby was third with a 1:33.746.
The session was delayed by a red flag for a crash involving Jordan Cardozo of Newmarket, ON in turn two. He suffered a suspected broken leg and was transported to hospital.
The first SV Cup race goes green at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and the back off of the doubleheader runs at 4:10 p.m. on Sunday.
Hamilton, ON’s Steven Nickerson gained some ground in the Honda CBR125R Challenge points race by qualifying fastest with a time of 2:04.237 while series leader Bodhi Edie of Warman, Sask. took fourth. Nickerson now trails Edie by five points in the standings, 211-206.
Ste-Julie, QC's Karl Robitaille and class newcomer Loic Viscasillas of Laval, QC were second and third, respectively in qualifying.
The Honda CBR125R Challenge closes Saturday's program with an eight-lap race at 5:00 p.m., with its second round slated for 1:35 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
Points leader Cody Matechuk of Cochrane, AB was dominant in practice for the Armour Bodies Amateur Sport Bike class with a time of 1:25.431 on his Suzuki Dealers / Acceleration Racing Suzuki GSX-R600. The 15-year-old bounced back from an engine failure on Thursday morning to top Friday afternoon's practice by 1.5 seconds.
His closest challenger in the standings, Longueuil, QC’s Sebastien Tremblay was second quickest with a 1:26.482 on his A. Perusse Kawasaki / Kawasaki ZX-6R. Tremblay led the morning times but couldn't match his pace in the afternoon.
Efram Ellenbogen of Belleville, ON placed third for the day with a time of 1:26.994 riding the BnE Racing Yamaha YZF-R6.
The Amateur Sport Bike competitors will qualify on Saturday afternoon for their lone race on Sunday.
