New Increased Price of Volkswagen Vento Diesel in India from 1 July 2011

Volkswagen India has effected a 2.2% price hike on the Volkswagen Vento Diesel on the back of rising input costs. While Indian car buyers have favored the Vento, especially it’s diesel variant over the past couple of months over cars like the All New Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki SX4, leading the Vento topping it’s segment, this move could potentially derail the Vento’s strong sales, as the Hyundai Verna Fluidic has shown a very strong opening with whopping 4357 units being sold in May 2011, emerging as the segment topper.

While the spurt in the Verna sales could be due to the pre-bookings, the large number of variants of the Verna Fluidic at a range of price points could very well make it a segment leader in the times to come. Coming back to the Vento, the price hike of 2.2 percent could translate to a higher cost of  around 20 thousand rupees to the car buyer.  Not a deal breaker really, but with the Fluidic Verna available in a lot more variants at lower price tags, could make the going very tough for the Vento in that case. Meanwhile, here’s an official statement announcing the price hike by Mr Neerag Garg, the Director of Marketing and Sales at Volkswagen India.
