McBain wins opener

SHANNONVILLE, ON -- Clint McBain took a narrow margin victory in the RACE Superseries Pro 6 Cycle Pro Superbike feature, season opener on Shannonville’s Fabi track Sunday.

The Alberta Cycle / Suzuki Dealers Group Suzuki GSX-R1000 rider had a race long battle with Acme Slate / Pirelli-sponsored Frank Trombino. The two riders entered the hairpin side by side and then McBain took the drag race finish to the flag.

In third was young Perusse Kawasaki rider Karl Daigle, who had an impressive season debut.

In Parts Canada Pro 600 action Daigle battled race long with Trombino only to lose the front end and drop out of contention for the race win. Trombino then cruised to the win with Z1 Cycletech Triumph 675 Daytona-mounted Alex Welsh in second, bringing to an end a long Canadian drought for the British marque.

Third place went to Excel Honda’s Marie-Josee Boucher, who enjoyed a great podium finish in her Pro debut.
