King stumbles in Prince George

From Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – North Central Motorsports Park welcomed the second round of the Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada-sponsored V-Rod Destroyer Series, but Mother Nature was not so welcoming. Poor conditions kept things challenging for the big drag bikes and everyone struggled with grip.

In the first round of eliminations it was Jeff Pitre, riding for Harley’s Hard Rock Saloon, pitted against newcomer Jamie Moench, riding for Edge Harley-Davidson. As predicted, Pitre spun the back tire and Moench romped to an early win and opportunity to advance to the next round.

Next up, Redline Racing & Volution Tune-sponsored Chris Perkins set his sights on displacing the Edge Harley-Davidson rider, Rick Adams. Just like Pitre before him, Perkins lit up the back tire and lost out to the determined Adams.

Up next, it was up to local favourite, Harley-Davidson/Buell of Prince George rider, Kelly McCuaig, to try to fend off Shaun Rude riding for Heritage Harley-Davidson and Harley-Davidson/Buell of Grand Prairie. Rude had a good jump, but quickly lost traction giving the win and advantage to McCuaig.

Reigning champion, Nick Allen, had a bye in the first round.

In round two of eliminations, things did not improve greatly and traction was minimal on the strip. Moench continued to impress, beating out the hard charging Adams to earn another shot at the final. In a large battle, McCuaig upset Allen, who had an uncharacteristic horrible start, sending the champ to the sidelines and giving McCuaig a well-earned run in the final.

In the final race of the day it was Edge Harley-Davidson rider Moench pitted against Harley-Davidson/Buell of Prince George rider and local hotshot McCuaig. Both riders advanced further than expected despite the difficult track conditions. Both riders got off to tenuous starts and when the white lights flashed at the end of the drag strip they were on Moench’s side, giving the newcomer his first big win in only his second V-Rod Destroyer race.

Despite the inclement weather, things are certainly heating up in the Western V-Rod® DestroyerTM Series.

The next round is at the Sturgis North Nitro Nationals at the Eagle Motorplex in Ashcroft, BC on July 16-17.
