ST-EUSTACHE, QC -- Amateur national action at Autodrome St-Eustache on Sunday was all about Kristopher Garvie and Amzy Nawaz. In the Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike race Garvie (pictured) beat Nawaz by just 0.047 secs. after a dramatic last turn pass, but in the K&N Performance Filters Amateur Superbike race later in the day Nawaz got his revenge, beating Garvie by 2.312 secs.

The wins were the first national victories for both riders.

A poor start left Nawaz sixth at the end of the opening lap of the 16-lap Amateur Sport Bike race but the Velocity Sportsgear Kawasaki ZX-6R rider quickly worked his way up to second and took the lead from the Tracksport Technologies / Kahuna Powersports Kawasaki of Garvie through the dogleg on lap seven. These two pulled clear of third place man Jody Greening, with Nawaz holding onto a slender lead.

On the final lap Garvie got inside of Nawaz in the final turn and managed to accelerate ahead of the Thorton, ON rider onto the front straight to take a narrow win.

"That was an awesome race; Amzy's always a pleasure to race against," said Caledon, ON's Garvie, who now leads Nawaz by 33 points in the Amateur Sport Bike standings. "I actually didn't know if it was the last lap; I didn't see the checker."

Burlington, ON's Greening was third, 8.682 secs. back on the BFE / ProStar / Sturgess Cycle Honda CBR600RR. Edward Rudkowski of Toronto, on a Suzuki GSX-R600, edged the Black Sheep / Elka Suspension Racing Team Kawasaki ZX-6R of Longueuil, QC's Alex Coelho for fifth.

Polesitter Samuel Proulx of Magog, QC led the first two laps on his Sherbrooke Harley-Davidson Suzuki GSX-R600 but then crashed out of the race.

Nawaz was on pole for the 12-lap Amateur Superbike race but Gravie led the first four laps before Nawaz took over and was able to stretch out a bit of a lead.

"I'm going to remember this for a long time," said a beaming Nawaz, "my first national victory. I knew I could do it after the Sport Bike race. I knew I had the pace. After the first two rounds I was a bit down but we've had a strong weekend and my confidence is up."

Greening was third again and continues to lead the Amateur Superbike standings by 24 points over Nawaz and 26 over Garvie.

Stephan Houle of Gatineau, QC placed fourth on the 613 Motorsports / Jim Keay Ford-Lincoln Suzuki GSX-R1000 and St-Hyacinthe, QC's Philippe Masse took fifth with the Pete's Superbike Kawasaki ZX-6R.
