Canadian team set for GS Trophy

From MEHco Inc.

EDMONTON, AB -- In August, Alberta was host to the highly acclaimed BMW GS Challenge, held at Rocky Mountain House and organized by Rick Fleury and his team at Argyle Motorsports in Edmonton.

With nearly 100 competitors for this event, the riders were judged on their off-road skills, problem solving aptitude, technical abilities and team work in a variety of treacherous back-woods situations and simulations to vie for the opportunity to represent Canada in the 2010 BMW GS Trophy, held Nov. 13-21 in South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique.

The top competitor for Alberta’s GS Challenge qualifier was Pat Horan. As the winner of the qualifying rounds, he became one of three riders to represent Canada in South Africa this November. Horan grew up in Nelson, BC and has 35 years of extreme off-road experience.

A second Albertan who will also be making the trip is Brian Kiely – who competed in Quebec’s qualifier. Kiely spent his formative years growing up in Cold Lake, AB and has a solid 30 years riding experience.

The third rider on the Canadian team is Dominique Lemaire from Montreal. He qualified in Quebec in 2009.

Although all of the national qualifying rounds had their own distinctive character, testing corresponds to a standardized level throughout the world. These national qualifiers ensure that the finalists in each country are of a comparable skill level.

Nine nations have confirmed their participation at the 2010 BMW GS Trophy in November with more confirmations expected.
