Rea to receive Hodgson Award

From the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada

MARKHAM, ON -- The Bar and Hedy Hodgson Award is presented annually at the time of the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Banquet & Reunion. The Canadian International Motorcycle Heritage Museum Foundation has announced that Terry Rea of Vancouver is the 2010 recipient.

The presentation will take place at the time of the 5th Annual Induction Ceremony being held at the Delta Burnaby Hotel & Conference Centre in Burnaby, BC on Saturday, Nov. 6. Visit the Hall of Fame website at www.motorcyclehalloffame.ca for complete details and to order tickets.

Created to honour the vision of the Hodgsons by "honouring a person, group or organization making a significant contribution to the preservation of Canadian motorcycling heritage", Rea was unanimously identified to receive this year's award.

Rea has been involved in the motorcycling community since he was a teenager. He started working for Trev Deeley in July 1988, but he was a long-time customer from 1956, having been involved as a competitor and, more importantly, as a relentless advocate for motorcyclists in Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, and the Province of British Columbia.

He was a founding member of the Association for Injured Motorcyclists (AIM), serving as President in the 1980s, and also helped launch the British Columbia Coalition of Motorcyclists (BCCOM) in 1985. During the same time period, he also worked with the Metropolitan Motorcycle Safety Association. He is a life member of the Royal City Rockets and is a constant figure at motorcycling events as an enthusiast, mentor and supporter.
