BEST MIDDLEWEIGHT - Honda CBR600RR

The CBR600RR is a two-times-in-a-row winner here, topping the charts in 2007 and 2008. It’s hard to argue with the lightest weight in the 600cc Supersport class, incredible midrange power and an ultra-precise-handling chassis that also provides a supple, controlled street ride. No other serious sportbike even came close to providing the balance and fun of this Red Rocket.

CONTENDERS: For ‘09, Honda has added a supersport-ready version of Combined Anti-Lock Brakes. Could fast sport riding have just become safer? New middle-weights from Kawasaki in the form of the ZX-6R, Ninja 650R or even the ER6n standard have a shot here. Yamaha, meanwhile, has rolled out what looks to be a fun, more street-oriented sporty bike with its FZ6R. Triumph also has a strong shot with the incredible Daytona 675, winner of this category in 2006 and heavily revised this year.
