Bostrom on Daytona Supersport pole

By John Hopkins

DAYTONA BEACH, FL -- Ben Bostrom led a Yamaha 1-2 in qualifying for the opening round of the AMA Pro Honda Oils Supersport Championship at Daytona International Speedway on Wednesday.

The factory Yamaha rider took his YZF-R6 around the 2.90-mile DIS road course in one minute, 40.346 seconds (105.834 mph). Seventeen-year-old Graves Motorsports Yamaha pilot Josh Herrin will line up second on the grid after putting in a 1:40.754.

"The R6 is fantastic," Bostrom enthused. "Yamaha has outdone themselves when they built that bike. That's pretty cool because we didn't have it completely set up. We had the bike up for Fontana and we kind of had to bring ot back to Daytona. This is a weird track, a different animal."

Attack Performance Kawasaki's Chaz Davies set the third best time of 1:40.819 on his Kawasaki ZX-6R and Josh Hayes completes the front row for Thursday's race after setting a best lap of 1:40.884 aboard the Erion Honda CBR600RR.

Defending class champion Roger Hayden will line up fifth on his Monster Energy Kawasaki ZX-6R after recording a 1:41.143 in Wednesday's qualifying session.

Scott Decker of Fort Saskatchewan, AB set the 40th best time in the field of 52 bikes with a 1:48.028 on the Phantom Freightliner/Suzuki Canada-backed GSX-R600 and Lions Bay, BC's Misti Hurst was 44th with a time of 1:48.932 riding her California SB School/Kawasaki-sponsored ZX-6R.

Both Canadians were within the 110% cut off to make the field for Thursday.

Thursday's 600 Supersport feature is scheduled for a 4:50 p.m. start.
