AMA Ice Race Championships moved

From the American Motorcyclist Association

PICKERINGTON, OH -- Due to unseasonably warm winter weather, AMA Racing and Baja MX have agreed to postpone the 2009 AMA Ice Race Grand Championships originally scheduled for this weekend. The event, which will crown the first AMA Racing Amateur National Champions of 2009, is now set for Feb. 21-22 at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mount Pleasant, MI.

"Mother Nature might have gotten the best of us this weekend, but we're still looking forward to showcasing the incredible talents of the country's best ice racers," said AMA Racing Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. "Despite this delay, the promoter is fully dedicated to this event and everyone is planning to work even harder to make the Ice Race Grand Championships a huge success."

Promoted by Baja MX, the AMA Racing Ice Race Grand Championships feature riders from four years old to 50-plus competing on bikes that range from lightly modified off-road machines to full-on, purpose-built ice racers. Riders will battle for Grand Championships and national No. 1 plates in a number of classes.

The top riders will also battle it out for the AMA Racing Ice Racer of the Year award, given to the most impressive rider on the ice, while the youth riders will chase the honour of AMA Racing Youth Rider of the Year.

To learn more about the event, see www.bajamx.com or call the Baja MX office at (989) 871-3356.
