Adventure riders raise autism awareness

LANGLEY, BC – On Wednesday, June 29, long-time adventure touring riders Cheryl Letkeman and Leslie Sofarelli were scheduled to depart Western Power Sports for a 40+ day adventure motorcycle ride to destinations that include Inovuk in the Northwest Territories and Prudhoe Bay, AK. The duo will make the trip on a pair of fully accessorized 2012 Triumph Tiger 800XC motorcycles that were outfitted and prepped by Western Power Sports.

Some of the stops Cheryl and Leslie will be making include: Prince Rupert, BC; Watson Lake, YT; Dawson City, YT; Inovuk, YT; Tuk, AK; Hotsprings, AK; and Homer AK.

“We love the freedom and adventure that motorcycling offers,” said Letkeman. “There’s something special about exploring the country on two wheels. Everything seems more vivid and people are more likely to strike up a conversation, which is why we’re using the opportunity to help raise awareness for Autism Spectrum Disorder.”

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a complex developmental disability that affects communication and social interaction. Symptoms can be observed in children as early as 18 months of age, there is no cure for autism and there is no single treatment for autism spectrum disorders so support for families that have a child with autism is paramount.
