Max Biaggi, who won three of his four world 250 GP titles with Aprilia, is set to return to the Noale-based company to ride the Aprilia RSV4 in the Superbike World Championship in 2009 and 2010.
Rome-born Biaggi had a successful period with Aprilia between 1991 and 1996, winning three world titles in the 250 GP class, which included 23 GP wins and 37 podiums.
"Biaggi was our number one choice, I'm delighted to have him back with us," declared Leo Francesco Mercanti, director of product development and sporting activities of the Piaggio Group. "Max is a rider who has written a number of important chapters in Aprilia's racing history: he was involved in the company's first major triumphs, and the seasons of Aprilia domination, all of which enabled this young company to join the ‘greats' of motorcycle racing.
"Today, with Biaggi and the Aprilia RSV4 we begin a new challenge. We are convinced that with him we will be able to put to the best possible use all of our passion, our expertise and desire to win."
Aprilia is the most successful Italian manufacturer amongst all those taking part in motorcycle racing: since 1992 it has won 31 world titles in GP racing, as well as four titles in Supermoto, two in Trials and eight race wins in the Superbike World Championship.
