Supermoto opens in Abbotsford

From the RPM Supermoto Championship

ABBOTSFORD, BC -- The RPM Supermoto Championship gets the green flag Sunday as Western Canada’s first and only supermoto race series starts at Tradex Trade and Convention Centre in Abbotsford, BC.

Supermoto is North America’s newest and fastest growing motorsport. Racers compete on an outdoor track that’s 70% asphalt and 30% dirt with motocross style berms and jumps. The motorcycles are modified dirt bikes with tightened suspension, road racing brakes, rims and tires.

“Supermoto takes the best parts of motocross racing and road racing and combines them into one sport that’s as exciting to watch as it is to race,” said Gaston Morrison, President, RPM Supermoto Championship. “Road racing guys and dirt riders can’t normally compete together, but in supermoto they’ll go head to head to prove they’re the faster rider.”

Racers will compete in six championship rounds for supermoto supremacy, including the CMA Canadian National Championship.

Round 1, Abbotsford – Sunday, May 18
Round 2, Abbotsford – Sunday, June 8
Round 3, Abbotsford – Sunday, July 6
Round 4, Abbotsford – Sunday, July 20
Round 5, Quesnel – Sunday, Aug. 10
Round 6, Abbotsford – Sunday, Aug. 24 (CMA Canadian National)

The 2008 RPM Supermoto Championship is being organized by British Columbia Riders Promoting Motorsports (RPM), a group of volunteer, supermoto enthusiasts and racers.

Racers can register for the 2008 RPM Supermoto Championship by becoming a member of RPM. Membership details, championship information and sponsor opportunities are available at http://www.unitedrpm.com/.
