Young solid second at Heartland Park

By John Hopkins

Collingwood, ON teenager Ben Young scored a second place finish in the USGPRU Pilot GP125 Championship event at Heartland Park Topeka July 12.

The RAT Racing, KBC, RS-Taichi-backed rider was just nipped to pole position in qualifying by defending champion Nobi Iso, but after entering the first turn in fourth worked his way up to second by the fourth lap and held that spot the rest of the way on his RAT Team Honda RS125.

The result leaves Young third in the series point standings.

Young, who was making his first visit to the Kansas track, also placed third in the CCS GP125 Championship event.

Weather threatened to play havoc with race day activities after a major storm blew through the area in the morning and the 125 competitors practiced on a soaking track. But the sun came out for the afternoon's race program and the track was mostly dry for the USGPRU 125 feature.

Young will be back in action for the next USGPRU event at New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend, July 25-26.
