Botterill to deliver keynote at women's event

From the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada

MARKHAM, ON -- Jennifer Botterill, three-time Olympic Gold Medalist as a member of Canada's Women's Hockey team, will present the Keynote Address at the closing ceremonies of the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada's (MCC) International Women Riders Congress and Festival (IWCF) on Saturday, Aug. 14 at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville. The evening will be sponsored in part by Molson Coors Canada.

"Jennifer has risen to the top of her sport in a non-traditional field and has been winning Olympic medals for Canada since 1998," said Myra Abstreiter, Chair of MCC's Women Riders Council (WRC). "Our event theme is One World, One Ride and it's about leadership, tapping into our own power and working together to drive positive change. Jennifer is a perfect example of what is possible."

Botterill graduated from Harvard with an Honours degree in Psychology. She has won three Olympic gold medals (2010, 2006, 2002) and one silver (1998). She is a five-time World Champion and was twice named the most valuable player at the World Championship tournaments. She was the Team Captain at Harvard and the only two-time winner of the Patti Kazmaier Award (equivalent to the Heisman). In 2001, she was named Manitoba Female Athlete of the year, an award her mom won 36 years before.

Aside from her on-ice career, she has been an on-line host for Wayne Gretzky's www.Gretzky.com and also uses her voice as an ambassador for Right to Play, EatSmartOntario.ca and Molson Coors Canada's Here's to Responsible Choices program. Additionally, she lends her time to numerous other Canadian charities.

The IWCF will feature networking opportunities, organized tours, educational programs, maintenance workshops, safety programs, a charity trail ride, skills challenges, demo rides and entertainment. Registration is open to both male and female participants.

The IWCF is presented by Honda Canada. Other partners include Open Road Insurance Program, BMW Motorrad Canada, Motorcycle Mojo, Motorcycle & Moped Industry Council, Canadian National Sportsmen's Shows, Royal Distributing, Cycle Canada, Inside Motorcycles, Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada, Humber College Transportation Program, Rider Training Institute, Learning Curves, Dion Durrell, Twisted Throttle, Powerlily, Arai Canada, Ducati and Spyder.

MCC is a national federation of rider organizations in Canada and serves the interests of all riders. Its purpose is to unite motorcyclists and preserve, protect and promote motorcycling. With more than 245 member groups, as well as individual members, the MCC speaks for tens of thousands of riders. Its Women Riders Council was formed in 2006 to address the specific interests of women riders in Canada.
