McLean almost perfect

By John Hopkins

Despite seeing his racing budget reduced Coaldale, AB teenager Royce McLean has still been able to make waves in the 2010 western Canadian road racing scene.

The 15-year-old has an impressive nine wins and one second place finish from 10 starts riding his Yamaha YZF-R6 in CMRA action at Calgary's Race City Motorsport Park and Edmonton's EMRA action at Stratotech Park.

According to an update from his mentor, Steve Dick, McLean still enjoys some support from Yamaha Motor Canada and is also backed by Seitzco Motorsports in Okotoks, AB.

"He has also been doing some speaking appearances in the community and obviously has recovered quite well from his injuries suffered last August," added Dick, referring to the crash at Atlantic Motorsport Park that left McLean with a badly broken leg and brought his 2009 season to an early end. He was leading the HJC Pro Rookie of the Year standings in the Parts Canada Superbike Championship at the time of his accident.

Most recently, McLean took three wins and broke the Stratotech track record four times in EMRA action.
