Montreal FMX show full of surprises

MONTREAL, QC - The Freestyle Motocross (FMX) program of the Supermotocross Monster Energy presented by Coors Light and Parts Canada/Thor, will innovate this year as the event organizers have hired Canadian veteran rider Paul Smith to choreograph and direct the FMX contest.

On Saturday Oct. 2, fans at the Olympic Stadium will witness the impressive jumps and stunts of Charlie Pagès, Beau Bamburg, Brody Wilson, Ben Milot and a fifth flyer to be named, all orchestrated by Smith. American Scott Murray, who will perform his unique double backflips during an exhibition presentation, will join the FMX riders during their performances.

"The Freestyle program will be one of the high points of the evening," promised Jean-Sébastien Roy, the Supermotocross Monster Energy official spokesperson. "It will precede the grand finales around 9pm and fans should make sure they are back in their seats in order to witness the prowess of the guest flyers.

"With what our friend Paul Smith has in store, fans will not want to delay at the concession stands once they have been served. Paul will be in charge of the Freestyle program, from the layout of the ramps to the order of presentation of the jumps. He will working with our guest flyers and will integrate at the right moment the special double backflip exhibition performed by Scott Murray. I think that fans will greatly appreciate this new way of setting up that variation of the sport of motocross."

The 2010 Freestyle contest brings back to Montréal French ace Pagès, who made his first appearance last year at the Supermotocross. He will face the busy Quebec flyer Milot and three American masters who will be making their first visit to the Olympic Stadium. Bamburg, who is renowned for his unique massive whips, is an Oregon native and a veteran rider who has entered several international Freestyle Motocross events including the X-Games. Massachusetts-born Wilson is famous for holding tricks longer with more extension than most of the field. This season, he has competed on the European IFMXF Tour, the X-Games and at the Madrid X-Fighters. The name of the final invited Freestyle rider will be named shortly. He will also be an American.

Murray, who hails from Michigan, secured his reputation in the world of Freestyle Motocross back in 2007 when he executed his first successful double backflip in front of a large crowd at a Supercross event in Genoa, Italy. Since then, the FMX rider does not enter Freestyle competitions but performs double backflips in exhibition tours as his jumps require special ramps that help him stay up in the air for a longer period of time.
