BBMX win big in Toronto

From Bel-Ray

Toronto, ON - The Bel-Ray sponsored DNA Energy/ BTO Sports Butler Brothers MX Team may not seem like a greedy bunch, but they sure acted that way with regard to the lites-class podium spots at Rogers Centre in Toronto this weekend. All three top positions were filled with BBMX riders.

The weekend’s race was a non-AMA event, but that didn’t stop a huge contingent of local Canadian talent and AMA regulars from lining the starting gate in hopes of an upset win. As it turns out, both heat races and the main event were dominated by the BBMX team.

In the main, Canadian rider Ryan Smith nailed the holeshot but couldn’t keep the pace. The BBMX trio of Kyle Cunningham, Matt Boni and Shaun Skinner soon swept past to lead the race. However, Cunningham, who had posted the fastest lap times of the evening, tangled with a track marker on lap two and went down. The mistake set him back in the pack, and the gutsy rider had to dig deep and ride hard from that point on. After Cunningham’s mishap, BBMX rider Shaun Skinner found the lead and rode a mistake-free race to the checkered flag. He was followed across the line by Boni, no stranger to podium finishes himself. Cunningham put his blazing speed to good use and found the final podium spot, completing the BBMX sweep.

Of his first win, Skinner said, “That was a long race. I rode smart and smooth tonight. I tried to find a good line and keep moving forward. Our team swept the podium tonight, so we are really happy.”
